MJ just doesn't work anymore..........

When I first bought MJ, it worked - albeit with 'bad connections.' The voices would break up and I couldn't always dial a number (the dial tone would not shut off). Now, my MJ is more than a year old and I haven't gotten any use out of it because these problems just got worse. Now, it takes at least five minutes before MJ loads when I boot my PC and the Task Manager freezes (doesn't show all the other programs running) - and, then, MJ doesn't work. I can't uninstall the software because it isn't listed as an APP. I can't return it because it's too old. Others I've talked to are happy with their MJ. I want to make this work. Any suggestions out there? Thanks.

Before anyone can help, we need to know your set up, OS, wired/wirelesss phone, laptop, desktop, thin client, etc.

At his point, I'd like to exchange my MJ for a new one. If you think it's worth pursuing fixing this one, I'll give it a try. However, please note, I've been trying to fix this one for a year now with no results. Some of the things I've trie came from the helpful group on this forum. Everybody's trying (and I've explained the problems before), but nothing has yet worked.

As oldtimer said, more info is needed. It sounds like your computer is struggling with not enough memory and too many tasks. Since you know where task manager is, run it for awhile and let us know what CPU usage is at. If it is high, what process is spiking it? MJ takes almost nothing to run and it's delay in loading is usually based on the Internet connection it has available.

Did you renew it? Make sure MJ process has priority of higher than normal in task manager.

I have 4 GB RAM already and it's the max this laptop will hold. I'm using Windows Seven Home Premium - but, when I started with this MJ unit, I was using Windows Vista - same problems now (same laptop). There are no other apps loading at the same time (I put a delay of 3 minutes on MJ (after all other startup apps are loaded)). What does it mean to 'renew it'? Meanwhile, I'll up the priority in Task Manager. The primary symptoms are:

After rebooting, MJ seems to work. Sometimes it works like a regular telephone in that, as soon as the first digit is pressed, the dial tone stops. However, sometimes (and quite often), the dial tone continues until the next-to-last digit is pressed. The problem begins when the dial tone continues even after the last digit is pressed. At that point, the call doesn't go through at all. MJ doesn't work at that point until I reboot (quite unacceptable - I can't even receive calls at that point).

I've tried plugging MJ directly into the PC and into a USB powered extension. Same symptoms. I've tried unplugging the replugging MJ into the USB port while the PC was running. Same symptoms. The blue light is always on when the unit is plugged in. Someone in this forum suggested that I change the power settings in Device Manager for all USB Root Hubs (uncheck the first checkbox) under Properties>Power Management> for every entry of USB Root Hub. That seemed to help for the first day - then I realized that the checkboxes quickly become checked (again) on their own. That's a mystery by itself.

At this point, my MJ has been upgraded (whatever that means). Please don't forget: what does 'renew it' mean? Also, do you need any more information from me? I don't like giving up on a problem!

A lot of people end up running MJ on it's own computer due to problems that you are having. If it's possible try and run MJ on another computer and see if the problems persists. Another option may be to run MJ as a service and see if that helps. Personally I would get the SIP credentials for your MJ and use it with xlite. After that you could use an ata if you want and not experience these problems anymore. At 4 GB RAM and to have these kinds of problems with MJ means you either have a defective MJ or your computer needs a good cleanup.

SIP Credentials are your username and password that MJ uses to authenticate and communicate with MJ's servers. It's basically the info that your MJ sends to the server to let you place and receive calls. Xlite is a free softphone that you use the username and password with (along with a few other steps) that allow you to use the MJ service without the MJ dongle (this does violate the MJ TOS just so you know). An ata is an analogue telephone adapter. A popular ata is the pap2t-na here's a better description than what I could give you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_PAP2 Good luck with getting your MJ up and running but getting a return after you have had it for this long may be impossible.

MJ TOS (Terms Of Service), the "rules 'n' regulations", the "agreement" you abide by to use their service, spelled out in the MJ website.

Leverage for what????????????? If you didn't PAY for another year WHY IN THE WORLD would they send you a new unit?? I know maybe I won't pay the lease on my car in hopes of them giving me another, yeah that's the ticket..
Log into your MJ account ( www.my.magicjack.com) and look to see when your account has expired or if it is indeed current and active. If it has been a while since it expired you may not get your old # back...

I feel for you. I used to get them every 4 yrs for 2 decades like clock work. Would switch back and forth between each kidney. I used to take a LOT of vitamin C. Once I stopped that they disappeared. Worst pain ever and yes that means labor as I have a few female friends who have had both and hands down the stone was worse. Funny thing is when it stops moving towards the bladder it is like someone turns off the pain switch.
So again I feel for you.. NOT FUN AT ALL. Hope you pass it soon

I had a buddy who used to drink a 6 pack or more and then do jumping jacks ( I kid you not) he swore by it and said it helped him pass his stone faster!! I can't vouch for it as I am not a beer drinker but it sure sounded like a hell of a way self medicate
