No Dial Tone after incoming call is not answered

Post by jackedin »

Hello -

If the magicjack gets an incoming call and that call is not answered - the next time you pick up the phone and try to make a call - there in no dial tone. However, (and this is really strange) you can dial a phone number and the call will be placed. Or you can hang up and pick up again - then there is a dialtone. I have tried several phones - both wireless and corded and each phone has the problem. The current menu setting is - on telephone.

Any thoughts??

Thanks for your help

Go into device manager and then the USB section. Then look at ALL ( yes there are more than one) USB ROOT HUB and check to see if the power saving setting is checked. If yes, uncheck all you find.
If that fails you may want to look into getting a POWERED USB hub.

Did you reboot and then see it it helped???
Also if you are using the extension cord which came with your MJ, don't as it causes more problems than it is worth. Also try to use a rear USB port if possible..

http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/magi ... t8174.html

It appears they never fixed the service affecting bug officially reported to them back in January of this year.

Any way you can plug the MJ into the USB port in the rear of the PC which is part of the MB ( and not the one which is jumpered off the USB port inside the MB as that is an extension port, you want the pne which is physically part of the MB)??
Sometimes these extension USB PCI cards can be problematic. It is easy to try and see if it helps.
Also any way you can try your MJ on a different PC? This will narrow down if it is the MJ which is faulty or something on your PC.

Joe - I have tried it on all the usb ports - both on the computer system and the pci card - same problem. I tried in on other PC and had the same issue.

If you had the same exact problem on a different PC then, to me, it says your MJ is the problem.
You can do 2 things, go locally where they sell the MJ, buy it and try it. If it works then problem fixed, then you can return it and contact MJ for a replacment. Or you can contact MJ directly for a replacment first.
IF the replacement or new one does not work?? Then I am out of ideas, sorry..

One other thing to check. You mentioned that you have tried other phones.

Please ensure that there is nothing common between the phones. I.e. do not use the same base cord, splitter, etc.

Otherwise, I think BitstopJoe has correctly narrowed it down to the MJ.

MagicJack is sending this problem to their engineers

Post by jackedin »

After almost 2 hours - MagicJack Support has escalated this problem to their engineers. They told me that it seems the problem maybe on their end and not the MJ- (which would confirm the prior posting back in January about this problem. I will wait and see.
