Returning my MJ - it does not suck

Post by YipMan_Style »

Everything works, everything is fine. I'm lucky I guess to have everything work right out of the box. And not even read the instructions (but did read this forum).

The porting of my number is a issue. We still can't. Coming soon and I waited. And waited. And here goes another phone bill tomorrow.

I love MJ, but not porting my number is a big issues, that I don't see it worthwhile financially - in summary. Running PC 24/7, wear & tear and a phone bill. The $40 spend pays for a few months of phone bill even at the bare minimum.

I got mine at Walmart. So with receipt, I can still return it.

My issue is nothing new so I'll get to the question.

I'm thinking about returning it. What do I need to do to "erase" everything?

There really is nothing to erase. Your contact list is saved on MJ's server; your profile will be deactivated once your first year contract expires. The only issue would be if Wal-Mart tries to resell it, the buyer won't be able to use it unless he/she has your login and email info (which you never want to give out). That problem has been mentioned a few times on this forum.

Just take it back and forget about it.

tsmith makes a good point.

You'd probably save everyone a lot of hassle, if you returned it as "defective." Since it truly cannot be used properly by another customer, that seems to be a fair and logical approach.
Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:

-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)

Shaken, not stirred.

Google Voice is the chaser.

I can imagine the tech chat now:

mJ: My name is Sarah, how can I help you?

user: I got a magicJack at Wal-Mart today and it doesn't work.

mJ: What is problem?

user: I plug it in and it took awhile, and then wants me to log in. Its says the magicJack has already been registered.

mJ: You need complete the registration screen to use magicJack.

user: There is no registration screen. It says it was already registered.

mJ: That is not possible. Let me transfer you to one of top 10% customer service reps as voted by users.

Rinse.

Repeat.

I can change the contact list, and etc, and that's what will be saved on the MJ server, right. So in other words, I could remove my name and info, correct?

Yes, I would return it as defective and would not put another person through this. The way the packaging was done, I had to cut it out. So any customer would see that it's been opened, and would choose another one over it - if Walmart does put it back for sale.

Since I just paid another month of phone bill, I got another 30 days. I should say MJ got another 29 day to keep me as a customer. I've read others stories that are similar to mine.

Sad, because I have nothing but good things to say about MJ. Consider there are so many negatives posted on this forum and others. MJ works for me. It can help me save money. I love it.

But I just can't keep loving it. :(

Returned MJ to Walmart. I had to lie and say it was "defective." :(

So are there anything else special I need to do to uninstall MJ from my computer?

If porting ever becomes a reality, and I'm back with MJ again, will the be a good or bad thing to just leave it on the PC?

While I'm sure some may argue, I don't believe there's anything you need to worry about on your computer. Yes, some traces of mJ may hang out on your computer, but I highly doubt that you'll ever notice, or that they'll ever cause any trouble!
