Problem is when you do create a new list and restart your MJ, it goes BYE BYE again.. The fun never ends :(

Yeah, I just did a restart to see what would happen. I lost all my info and made a couple of calls that showed in my call log. Sure 'nuff, after the restart, they evaporated.

Personally, I don't really care. I've never found a perfect solution after repeatedly losing my information from MS Outlook. At the moment, Google Voice seems to be my preferred solution since I can make calls, store my contacts and call data, and have it available on my Droid.

Of course if Google ever shuts down Voice, I'll be up the proverbial tributary without a method of locomotion.

Maybe this will help some...
Chat InformationPlease wait for a site operator to respond.

Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'Jacqueline'

Chat InformationYour Issue ID for this chat is LTK4360462215X

Jacqueline: Hello, how may I help you?

Miranda: Hello. I am having an issue with my magicJack contacts and calls lists. They were deleted a few days ago. I spoke to Ken and Dudley yesterday, and they showed me the update announcement saying some lists have been lost. Unfortunatly I just recieved the update today. Now when I add contacts if I reboot the computer all the new contacts are deleted also.

Jacqueline: Is your magicJack currently plugged into your computer and lit?

Miranda: yes.

Jacqueline: Do you see Stock Symbol : CALL on your dial pad?

Miranda: Yes

Jacqueline: Please click the link to download and run the magicJack upgrade (applicable for both XP & Vista):

Jacqueline: http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe

Jacqueline: .

Miranda: Will it work on Windows 7 ultimate?

Jacqueline: Yes

Miranda: MagicJack has finished upgrading and I see the soft phone, however the contacts list is still empty.

Miranda: Do i need to try to input a contact and reboot the software while you are on the line to see if it retains the information?

Jacqueline: Go ahead please

Miranda: Ok, for now it worked. Now I NEED my previous contact list AND calls lists back. Because they were missing before i received the upgrade, i assume this may be possible. How would I do that?

Jacqueline: We are pleased to announce that magicJack customers have now received our latest magicJack upgrade. This upgrade includes the following benefits:

Jacqueline: -Less bugs

Jacqueline: -Superior call quality

Jacqueline: -Works on Windows and Mac

Jacqueline: -Easy to use

Jacqueline: -and much more

Jacqueline: There may be some magicJack users that will no longer have their past contact list available. Please create a new contact list. Our latest upgrade, with advanced features should prevent this from ever happening again. We apologize for any inconvenience. We are not be able to restore contact list.

Miranda: This does not apply, I didn

Miranda: did not have the upgrade when my contacts list was deleted

Jacqueline: The upgrade was automatically applied to your magicjack and it happened to all magicjack users on the same day which was late last week

Miranda: I just got the 'lucky you' update today. My soft phone just changed today. I did not have the update before... perhaps MajicJack servers had an update... if that is the case there should be a backup somewhere.

Jacqueline: Please allow me to inform you that due to the upgrade , the contact list cannot be retrieved any more from the old system

Miranda: That is unacceptable. The lists must be retrieved. It would be poor business practices to delete peoples personal information, and not have some way of fixing it or have some form of compensation for the disruption. This is not just an inconvenience.

Miranda: How could one get the lists back?

Jacqueline: It must be frustrating and for that please accept my sincere and unreserved apology this may have caused you

Jacqueline: The least I can do is to forward your comments to the higher department to address your concern

Miranda: Please do. Would they be able to retrieve the lists, or help me to do so?

Jacqueline: I cannot answer you yet until we got reply from them

Miranda: Approximately how long will that take? Do you know?

Jacqueline: I suggest to please chat us back a little later

Miranda: Ok, who should I ask for?

Jacqueline: You may ask for a upper level support

Miranda: Thank you.

Jacqueline: Is there anything else I may help you with today?

Miranda: No, but thank you, you were much more helpful than Ken.

Jacqueline: Not a problem

Jacqueline: Have a great day

I think I am going to make a formal complaint with the BBB if I cannot get my lists back. With this many people with lost lists, they better keep on their toes... we could definitely hurt their business if we started talking to other people.

Of course if Google ever shuts down Voice, I'll be up the proverbial tributary without a method of locomotion. lol!!

The weird thing is, my lists returned before I manually upgraded, and they've remained intact. There's no sense to this.

Lucky man. HAS to be a server issue and the luck of the draw to which server one was one. When they did their database update I guess some servers got messed up. I never won anything in my life, but this I get huh?? :)

Had to restore to last night's image before the upgrade. When I rebooted this morning I got that blasted windows installer message again. I'll just wait for the download (I sound like a broken record).

The fact you still can't save your contacts has got to be driving you up the wall Joe.

For sure. I figured when I got the legit update, like I did this AM all would be well, nope.
Sure it bums me out doing my contact list over, but sheesh the least it can do is SAVE the damn thing when MJ or my PC is rebooted!!

Perhaps some fly-by-night operation can get away with, "Oops, so sorry that we lost your data.", but for MagicJack to make such a statement is inexcusable.

All user's Contact Lists are currently on some sort of back-up media.

The IT department could & should be setting every other task aside until each & every paying customer has their Contact Lists restored.

This is gross negligence on the part of MajicJack!

Hello all,
I am not sure where to go with this so I am going to jump in right here. I too was one of the "Lucky Ones" to receive the mj update, and upon doing so lost my contacts list and call list, but, also I have now lost the use of my magicfeatures plugin, and,.. not only is the plugin not working but this wonderful update also deleted all of my speed dial numbers in there! I have no idea how to even try to get the magicfeatures working again? The now grayed out magicfeatures icon is telling me to "Please Plug in and start MJ" The mj is plugged in and working? just no contacts list or call list...... any ideas?

Unless of course MJ has found a way to undermine their efforts!! Lets hope not..

Hey Tom since I am now back to my oring MJ setup again ( I was able to restore my image after I got the Lucky You this morning and so far it has not updated again). You may want to check to see if you have a new program running in the background after the MJ update. I keep my background running programs AND services to a min but I did notice some sort of tablet program running after MJ did it's update. So you may want to see if you have that.
Others too who are into having a lean running PC may want to take note. With the old version of MJ running I no longer see it. I should have written down the name, sorry, but I know it said tablet this or that.

Looking at my processes with the MJ update I now have WISPTIS.exe running. A google search found this http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/proce ... s.exe.html about this process.

Yep that's it... WHY would MJ need that process running? I wonder if one can stop it ( or better yet rename it so it doesnt run) and will that affect MJ??
Like I said I run a very lean PC ( processes AND services) so if and when I do the MJ update I will be sure to stop it and see what happens.
Also I did notice, on a reboot, that the saving your settings took a LONG LONG time to complete after I did the MJ update.. Another P.I.T.A thing generated by the MJ update. UNLESS it was a one time thing. I didn't keep the update long enough t find out. I know there is a hive cleaning service from Microsoft to correct long saving your settings time. I might have to re-enable that as once before I had that problem but it disappeared on it's own.
Good Job SabresFan in getting the name of that process for me, thank you.

EDIT: Just saw this from that link:
You cannot get rid of wisptis.exe by renaming or deleting it: Windows File Protection will cause it to be reinstalled the next time you run Adobe Acrobat or Office 2003. If you don't have a Tablet PC and don't want an unnecessary process eating up resources, you can uninstall Windows Journal from the add/remove programs in the control panel. Alternatively, you could go to Regional Settings > Language > Details and remove Advanced Text Services.
I am ALMOST positive the new MJ update started Windows Journal, so that is where it came from

Might that be the Tablet Pc Input Service you are referring to? I just checked my system after the mj update was installed and it says that service is "stopped" not running? I checked it thru task manager/services I just checked my processes and that WISPTIS.exe is not in there? I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Yes thats was it but on my system it was running. Of course it might time out after a bit. I didn't keep the update long enough to find that out. If and when I get the update again I will disable that service, or at the very least set it to manual and see if it affects MJ operation.

I just did a system restore and I'm back to the older version of MJ with the aircard options at the top of the softphone. It might be time to start blocking MJ upgrades again.

At some point MJ will decide it necessary to push the update through to everyone as soon as it sees an older version. If you know a way to block it please share as nothing mentioned in this forum in 3 years has worked...

I have another question for you. Explain to me how this mj update wiped out all my speed dial #'s in my magicfeatures plugin, and also to futher that, how in the world did it somehow affect another copy of the magicfeatures plugin that is installed on another computer of mine here where I have previously run the mj,..... and now the speed dial #'s are gone from it too???

All I know is that I used my phone late last night and all my magicfeatures were still working fine, including my speed dial #'s, and then at about around 2 am EST I received the mj update and for some reason at that point my magicfeatures was then asking me to put my key back in for it again??? I had no idea where I even had that saved so I did not do it right away, and then today after my computer mistakenly got restarted last night by my son, the window to enter that key is now gone. Along with all my speed dial #'s from both computers. How can this be????

I really miss my magicfeatures, so if I too do a system restore, will that also get my magicfeatures working again? At least my new contacts list and call list are not disappearing after a restart of the system or just the mj. I even completely removed the mj from the back of the computer and plugged it back in and the contacts and call list remained there.

Magicefeatures is NOT working with the new MJ update. See here:

Hopefully when MagicFeatures comes out with their update all will be well again for you. This is why I went back to the old version of MJ beause I love my Magic Features. When they update so will I.

Well so far after getting the lucky you update at 6am, and reverting back 10 min later no update has been pushed through, YET. I have restarted my MJ several times ( as a test) and still ok.
Keep me posted if you find a way. Best test will be when they push through the update and you revert back and they do it again right away. Good time to test if you can block it.

Just got the update again, 12 hrs later. I will keep it this time I guess.
Yep and the tablet file is there. And yes it took a LONG LONG time at the saving settings when rebooting.
I added a WHOLE bunch of contacts just before it updated again. They stuck upon a restart. So I let the lucky you update go through. Guess what? They were all gone again after the update, sigh...............

Nah I am going to stick with the new version as no point anymore in going back as they will just keep pusinh the update through over and over again if I go back.
And yes MagicFeatures comes back nice after I went back to the old version of MJ. But fear not Redpepper and crew are good people and I am sure they will release an update as soon as they can. Just read that forum as they will post it there first and then here soon after. If I see it I will let you know and visa versa ok?.

Still waiting for the upgrade on my main PC. I tried to restore my wife's to an earlier day before the upgrade, but MJ forced it back. So, no use playing with that one.

Pen and paper. I know, it's an archaic idea, but I'm beginning to reach that point. If I had a zillion contacts to list, I'd create a text file and do the ol' copy/paste routine, one entry at a time. Painful in the beginning, but a time-saver in the end, at least for me.

Got the "Lucky You Upgrade" as well, and I found a way to get my contact list back and my call log.

In the menu there's a new option (at least I never seen it with the other softphone) called "Sign Out". Just click on that, it'll bring you a new window with your account ID, and underneath all you have to do is enter your login e-mail and your password then click "Next". That will restart your MJ and voilà !!! your contact list and call log is back.

Hope this will help.

Oh I agree with the screen capture and pen and paper thing. I was just replying to wiseguy when he just casually said to back it up as if it was still a file for us to back up.

* and much more "

That is what scares me!

I used inctrl5 in tracking my upgrade, seems soon they will push video so they can follow skype.

This latest upgrade had nothing to do with better compatibility, it had to do with folk being dongleless and tracking who people call per Government 911/VOIP regulations.

This is my last year with magiccrap.

Well looks like I still have to go running to my computer every time I get a call waiting beep in. I know, I hate to sound whiny, but this sucks. :( I hope the magicfeatures team get it up and running soon.

OMG You got that right! You take things for granted, and when there gone..... OH NO! Don't understand how you ever lived without them!?!? I guess all we can do is hope. But geeze that would have been really nice to get Caller ID with Name and Number and Call Waiting Caller ID too!
