I suppose this is the company's way of shaking off 3rd party plug-ins and such although I wasn't using any. I was running it as a background service on another user account so as not to get bugged by the pop-up GUI every time the phone rang.

I just got back in from the office and I am going to sit down here tonight with mine and give her one more go. If I can't establish a proper connection, I will put forth the effort to reverse engineer this crap. I have some down time ahead of me and they shouldn't cheese off an old PC geek such as myself. Are there any other programmers on this forum I should be making contact with?

Actually the new updated magicJack dialer appears to have been re-written to the extend to allow it to be more platform independent.

The new updated dialer also now doubles as the new magicTalk free calling softphone. If you start the magicJack dialer without the magicJack USB dongle plugged in you will see the dialer open with the words and icon "magicTalk" instead.

The upside is that it will probably be a lot easier for them to port onto smartphones in the next few months as per their announced plans (i.e. free phone service via the magicTalk softphone on iPhones, etc...).

One downside to the way it was done is that it completely removes accessibility (i.e. tools that speak out the information on the screen) for blind users. Anybody that was using "AutoIt" based automation macros is also pretty much out of luck now as the text in the dialer screen these macros relied on examining is no longer accessible. The internal registry related "hidden" features used by some members of this forum have also been completely disabled in the new updated magicJack dialer.

Unfortunately, they did not fix and correct some of the key logic bugs that were in the previous magicJack dialer release. One obvious one is that there is no dialtone after you receive an incoming call that goes unanswered. The bug was reported back in January and is still there.

There may have been some side agendas but the main one appears to have been making their dialer software more platform independent and making it double to rollout their new magicTalk free calling service. That appears to be the main driver for the update regardless of the sales & marketing statements made.

For reference, an update of the Magicfeatures Plugin that is compatible with the new major magicJack dialer release is progressing well and should be available for download in the next few days. The compatibility changes needed to the Skyjack and Xlitejack plugins are similar and will follow.

Just a thought MAYBE try uninstalling Windows Journal from add/remove since the new MJ udate added it??

Well, I can't find that Windows Journal anywhere. Not in add/remove, not in Services, etc. There is that WISPTIS.EXE that was found for the Tablet. Am I blind?

Edit: I deleted all 3 wisptis*.* files (creating a restore point first). Rebooting now.

Interesting. The installer still starts but doesn't seem to take so much time reinstalling the upgrade. A few minutes instead of 10 or so.

I keep seeing your posts about the upgrade reinstalling itself and what comes to mind is my setup and EVERY upgrade which needs to be "reinstalled". I run a program called Shadow Defender that erases all changes after each reboot unless user says not to.

Now, I know that you're a smart guy and that you would know if Shadow Defender was installed & running, but ...
there is probably something similar running, under the guise of a "protection program".

If you guys need anything let me know. I just solved my audio problem and redid the setup back to my liking. I am running MJ as a background service on another account called Phone. The benefit of which is, I don't get the GUI popping up in my face, it logs in as a service so that probably saves me some RAM. I noted that someone mentioned AutoIt and I am familiar with the script language. I have C++, some basic ASM, and other languages I know.

I never used any 3rd party plugins such as Magic Beans, don't plan to start but if your programmers need help I won't run away I will be around lurking in the shadows.

What I'm seeing in the Events Viewer is it's failing to find a component called "WISPHidden", which I believe is part of the #@!$%! Tablet feature MJ wants to install on our PCs. It spends about 10 minutes trying to find it and install it. It's also trying to access a deleted Microsoft Office 2003, I imagine for the Outlook feature. The Office 2003 I can deal with, but without this WISPHidden component....

wisptis.exe is part of Office 2003. To uninstall wisptis and Microsoft's Tablet PC Components on your PC, check this out here if you are having a problem.

Thanks Xkahn. I found that same forum last night and went through the tedious deletions in the Registry. It's documented in another thread I'd started a couple of days ago, which now has "-SOLVED!" added to the end of the title. Took a while, but it worked like a charm.
