Max number of Phones?

Post by Walter_Smith »

I am currently running 3 phones on the magicjack. I want to know if anyone knows a limit? 2 of the phones are radio phones I bought at walmart for 50 bucks the kind takes one cord and has handset 1 and handset 2 the other is an el cheapo deluxe cost about 8 dollars.

I am running 3 phones but only one splitter.

Helps if you ask a question. But here is another good point don't ask the question in someone else's topic.

@freestylegreek: Thanks, my neighbor wants to install one but has about 4 phones. I tried to get him to break down a buy the phone I have with the one jack and multiple handsets. But he won't hear of it.

I have been a loyal customer of the magic jack for over a year, no complaints. Well maybe one that last upgrade.

Just a thought as I see you are using a 3 way splitter. Have you tried it with one phone at a time to see if you can get calls?? Taking the splitter out of the picture?? I would give that a try and see what happens..

As I thought, I tried adding a third phone and my lines won't ring in. I did some research and found out the telephone company sends a ringing signal which is an AC waveform between 40 and 150 Volts. The magicjack must have to build up a charge from the 5 Volt DC USB port do ring just one phone let alone two.

So I guess 2 is the max?

More than one phone.

Try a powered USB hub. That has solved the problem for some wanting to use several phones.

I have one new Dect6 phone that would not ring at all. For some reason that phone really sucked up the juice from the jack.

3 phones was max for me and I did that without a powered hub so it all depends on how much the individual phones draw to make them ring. Go forth and experiment young man!

Actually there isn't much of a limit depending on how you construct your phone system. Just don't exceed the ringer equivalence of 3.5 (4.0 is the published max.). Many cordless base phone units draw only .1 so there can be quite a few cordless base stations powering 3-5 phones each. Personally, I have 5 phones running on my magicJack. 2 hard wired (electronic phones, not bell and clapper) and 2 base stations.

Using six DECT 6.0 Panasonic KX-TG64xx phones. No problem. Just one plugin to MJ.
