GOOGLE VOICE: How To Eliminate MJ Voice Mail Pickup

Post by redpepper »

There is a working solution available that can be used by Google Voice users to eliminate MJ voice mail pickup that is compatible with magicJack's new dialer.

Basically magicJack have recently decided for you that you are NOT going to use Google Voice the way you are currently using it. The creative ability to do that has been blocked in the new magicJack dialer and also at the network level. Calls are not going to roll back to the Google Voice mail system when the magicJack network is used for incoming calls. The only way around it is to use a different VoIP provider for incoming calls.

To solve this issue, you can use the SIP Plugin called XliteJackPlugin and set up a concurrent alternate VoIP provider to use with your existing magicJack USB dongle.

The way you use the phone attached to your magicJack USB dongle to place and answer calls will NOT change.

You will however use the concurrent alternate VoIP provider's network of your choosing to carry all your incoming calls. There are currently other VoIP providers that give out a free regular phone number with their service without a paid subscription that are Google Voice friendly. Sipgate and Whistlephone are just two examples.

After you have installed the XlitejackPlugin and set up the alternative VoIP provider account on the X-Lite SIP dialer Version 3.0 (free from www.counterpath.com - see http://www.pcphonesoft.com/xliteconfigurations.html for datafill examples), forward your Google Voice number to the phone number they issue you instead of your magicJack phone number. Your phone will ring when a new call arrives and it will display the caller id (and the caller name too if you have included it in the XlitejackPlugin Speed Dial table).

For reference, you can download and try the XlitejackPlugin free for up to 7 days.

In this 'alternate SIP'/XLtjack solution, I do not have to worry about GV fwd if all what I want is to let my own phone answering machine to pick up after say 6 'standard' rings, is that correct?

How many standard rings for ex. 'sipgate one' would send in before their server cut off the call?

Are sipgate-one incoming calls free? any known restrictions? (they may also have the std 'fair use' policy I suppose)

So in this 'soultion' we would loose the 'server quality' advantage of MJ (if any) for incoming calls. What are your thoughts about that? how is sipgate-one (free option) quality?

redpepper, will your NEW improved 'mj-ringforever' solution too make use of this type of 3rd party work around? or it will still allow us to use the MJ server for incoming calls as well? (i suspect it is out of Q, correct?)

thanks

PS: to use sipgate/Xltjack solution, I will ask MJ to fwd my incoming calls to the sipgate number which will ring my phone via Xltjack plugin, is that correct? No involvement of GV. If I want I would fwd my GV incoming calls also to sipgate number.

This was specifically for people that use Google Voice for call forwarding calls to their magicJack and need it to roll back to Google Voice mail if the call is not answered.

For somebody that just needs more time to answer their phone, MagicRingForever Release 2 should be available for download by the end of this month.

It doesn't sound like this would allow someone to use regular phone like Magicjack does. Incoming calls would have to be answered by a softphone. I suppose an ATA could be set up with the free service. then you would have two phones, one for incoming, one for outgoing. I guess I answered my own question. Magicjack you are a PIA.

No - that is definitely not correct. Perhaps the original posting in this thread was not clear enough.

The way you place calls and answer calls using your phone will remain exactly the same. The fact that the incoming call is arriving over a different VoIP network is transparent.

For clarification, the phone you have connected to your magicJack USB dongle will physically ring as normal when the X-Lite/SIP call arrives via the alternate VoIP provider's network. The incoming caller id will also be displayed on your phone.

Just answer the phone you have connected to your magicJack USB dongle as you normally do. Outgoing calls via the magicJack network will also still be placed as normal.

Been thinking about trying this. Any suggestions for the best quality free service for receiving calls?

Also, will the CallerID with Name feature still work from the numbers I have put into the MagicFeatures plugin?

You're the sales guy for PCPhoneSoft, correct?
I am running MagicRingForever 1.0.4.0 and wonder if it will continue to work. This was downloaded back when it was FREE.
As for the XliteJackPlugin when will it be available for the X-lite 4.0 dialer?
The free trial I downloaded would only work with the 3.0 dialer.

You need the NON free version of ringforever. Since MJ did their 2.0 update the free version will no longer work, sorry...

See http://www.pcphonesoft.com/pcphonesoft/ ... PIC_ID=669 for the X-lite 3.0 download link.

Support for the brand new X-Lite 4.0 softphone that was just released from beta may be added at a later date depending on demand and additional development costs.
