MJ on t5700 Question

Post by captcurt »

Hi All:

I set up a t5700 1G 256/256 according to info herein about 6 months ago. Never could get the MJ to dial from the phone handset on any PC or location..could not convince MJ tech support it was a MJ issue so I sent it back.. Anyway, just ordered another one (they refunded on the first w no problem) and this one works as it should with no problems . Its been running on the t5700 for a month now. BUT..it seems that when the MJ goes to do an auto-update, the EWF locking on the TC wont let it write the upgrade. So the the system hangs there trying to upgrade and restart. Only sign of this is that there is no dialtone.

I recall seeing some discussion in this regard but cant find it now. What is the to this? FOr now, I have left the TC unlocked and that seems to allow the upgrade to write and restart the MJ software.

Thanks, looking forward to more uses for the TC's here.

Try right-clicking on the padlock icon, select Commit, when prompted about saving the Overlay, say Yes, then boot the thin client. This should save the configuration and put the 5700 back into write-protect mode.

THanks...

I know how to get it back but the problem seems that if it is write protected, if MJ attempts an update, it cant write and therefore just hangs there. Never know it until you try to use the phone.

How do others deal with the (apparently) random update issue?

Upgrade your RAM to 512MB and it'll continue running and take the upgrade just fine, despite it being in write-protect mode. You'll still have to do a 'Commit' occasionally (after an upgrade). There's no way around that.

My MJ updates just fine with the write protection in place, but it has to do it on every boot unless I "commit" the changes. I run a chron job (ummm - Windows Scheduler?) to reboot once a month just for good measure.

How much RAM do you have in your thin client?

Whoa, hold on. There is a critical distinction that needs to be made here. The minimum requirement for the latest Magicjack software is 256/512, with the 256 being minimum ram memory and 512 being the IDE Flash Module, the solid state hard drive.

The focus, for the purpose of assistance, should not be on RAM but on the flash module.

How to upgrade Flash Module?

Post by dacaria »

I have a HP t5700 and I'm trying to figure out how to upgrade the flash memory. It currently has 256 flash and I want to install a 512mb flash module. Thanks.

The first sticky in this forum. You know the one that says "upgrade" which would match the word "upgrade" in your question.

(Sorry for the sarcasm, but that is why that thread is stickied. Just look.)

T5700 256 MB RAM/ 512 MB Flash

Post by cogentnexus »

Magic Works only briefly with this configuration. With magicJack installed and all the unnecessary files I can remove removed I notice that I have about 300 Mbytes free. However the Pagefile.sys simply grows until the flash drive is fully consumed. Even if I modify the pagefile.sys to use only 128 MBytes on C it still consumes upwards of 250Mbytes. How can I determine why the pagefile.sys is growing out of control like this? Can magicjack on a thinclient really work on 256 MB Ram and 512 MB Flash on MagicJack's current config? If so could someone help me determine what must be tweaked?

Hi cogentnexus
I'm running an HP T5700 512/512 with no pagefile. It was my understanding that the constant writing to a pagefile on a DOM would only shorten it's lifespan.
I would try setting it to use no pagefile and then delete the one that's there.
Don't forget to commit it or it'll return.

I believe with allot of tweaks that it can but I found upgrading to 512 MB RAM easy and quick and allowed me to use the conventional HP image and MJ with no tweaking. Also allows room for a firewall and future growth.

There is also a WinXP mini out there somewhere that runs in about 50 MB of RAM but I think that is getting into a gray area of software.
