These problems have been covered many times in this forum, but under a variety of descriptions. I've had similar problems with Windows 7 and have tried every fix from magicJack support and this forum. Occasionally when I start up the computer I still have this problem. I can't toggle between telephone and headset; in fact, the softphone menu doesn't even have the first option listed- Switch to Telephone or Headset.
I'm now beginning to think it has something to do with the magicJack hardware drivers not loading correctly at computer start up. It's possible the magicJack is starting too early to be configured properly.
As far as a quick fix, unplug the magicJack (get rid of the short USB cable that came with the mj), plug it back in, and restart the magicJack. This has worked every time.
I'm hoping the following fix will work: I've disabled cdloader2.exe from starting immediately on computer start up. I created a Scheduled Task to start the magicJack after a one minute delay. Perhaps this will prevent the problem.
I'm interested in any comments on my theory and possible solution.

solution if you can't toggle from headset to telephone
symptoms: for inbound calls, your phone rings, but no one is there when you answer; for outbound calls, you hear outgoing dial tone, when you dial numbers, it beeps but the dial tone doesn't go away and outgoing call doesn't go through.
reason: your MJ may be set to headset controls, rather than telephone. Go into the MJ program and click on headset/telephone controls. If it's set to headset, try resetting it to telephone. if it won't reset to telephone, here's how to fix that.
fix: go into device manager, expand sounds, game controller (by clicking on the plus sign). You should see several things listed..one of them will be your MJ device, likely named either "Tiger Jet" or "YMax" or "USB Audio Device". right click whatever device you think is your MJ device, and select update. if it updates successfullly, try unplugging and replugging MJ in and see if you can then toggle to telephone. If it doesn't update or says the software is the best one available, then right click on the device again, and uninstall it. Then unplug the USB from your MJ and plug it back in. Then try to toggle from headset to telephone. Once you get it set to telephone, you should be able to receive calls and make outgoing calls again.
