Google Voice and Whistle Phone for free call and a local DID
http://www.digitaloffensive.com/2010/11 ... ip-device/
This is not as detailed as some of my articles but a quick fix for those that are still looking for free. To add on to the article if you still have time left on your MJ you can forward your MJ to the whistle phone number as well.
I have added in the article the settings you need for asterisk and freepbx.
If any one is looking for a new reliable cheap paid service or even a service for a backup trunk let me know. I have recently started a new service. The site is still under construction bu the phone system is in place and working.

Whistle Ads
Actually the ad only comes the first couple of times you make an outgoing call each day; at least that has been my experience. Not obnoxious at all!

I can't connect to the article, or even digitaloffensive.com. Thought it might have been my browser, but doesn't connect on either. Wonder if Comcast is blocking my assess to the site.

Whistlephone and SIPgate Good, even w/o GV, GIZMO5, etc.
Just setup my ATA with new WhistlePhone (WP) credentials, on line 1. (Already had MJ forwarded to SIPgate on line 2.) Thx, OP.
Everything works great. Now once Google buys up WP, may not even have to listen to adds anymore.
One thing left to do: Get line 2 to roll over to line 1 for incoming calls. Anyone know if this can be done locally, on the (PAP2T/SPA2102) ATA?
With some uncertainty as to whether 100% of incoming calls from WP make it through, don't really want to forward SIPgate -> WP yet.

Whither MagicJack?
After driving all their ATA business away, it's going to be hard getting it back.
What are they thinking?

Ditto. I will still use MJ for the voicemail and incoming since I am paid up til 2014 but I have now switched to GV w ata. Its a great free backup - I just hope that lasts.genxweb wrote:I actually so done with them that I started my own voIP service.Last thought:

However if a fix is found I will use MJ again - I like the 212 number!

Re: Whistlephone and SIPgate Good, even w/o GV, GIZMO5, etc.
I just bought my second device. Not sure what the first one said 11 months ago, but this box said 7 million sold. Of that 7 million, how many users do you think use an ATA? I'm betting it's a very low %. And from what I've read elsewhere it has caused them security issues on their network. So my guess is that they probably don't want it back, that's the whole idea of what they are doing.q2n wrote: Last thought:

I personally know 612 that use it in a ata or pbx. All of them customers of mine.nailgunner wrote:I just bought my second device. If there were 700,000 it would only be 10% of the units sold. I don't know much about the ATA set-ups. My point was if they are causing MJ problems on their end, they probably are not concerned about losing a small % of their business. And the rotating passwords seem to be a pretty good sign of that.genxweb wrote: I personally know 612 that use it in a ata or pbx. All of them customers of mine.
