For a year and a half, I have been promised "engineers are working on it. Canada numbers will be available soon" AND "as soon as they are available, you can switch your number for free"
They ARE available now. There is NO way to switch to a Canadian number.
You are supposed to throw out your Magicjack, give up your remaining years, buy a brand new Magicjack, AND pay an extra $10 on top of that to get your Canada number.
After an hour on chat with 3 different CSRs, there appears to be no way around it. NOT HAPPY
Liar, liar, pants on fire (Canada numbers)

Canadian area codes
I too was told that I could change my US area code to a Canadian area code except that the website hadn't been updated. I am now told existing customers can never change to a Cdn code. I am further told the only way to get one is to buy a new MJ and then pay an additional $10 per year. What a shabby way to treat existing customers. I am appalled at such nasty business practice.

See the following thread about switching to Canadian number:

I got scammed
I bought my magic Jack this past August and I could not get a Canadian number free!! I had to buy it! The Magic Jack came with a U.S number but I didn't want that.. on the package a label even said free Canadian number is included...BULL SHIT!!! I had to use my credit card not once but twice to get a Canadian number. So here is what it cost me 59.99 for the Magic Jack from Best Buy aka Best Scam, plus 20.00 to properly assign a Canadian number for my local calling area in Brampton Ontario, Canada. We have that many frigging area codes here is unreal and not all numbers in the 905 are local.
My mother lives in Newfoundland Canada and looks like Magic Jack forgot to do their geography homework before offering Canadian numbers. Newfoundland has over 500'000 people, over 100'000 people in the capital city that all have internet throughout the province and Magic Jack did not even setup numbers for the 709 area. I can't believe they are selling the unit in Newfoundland which I expect allot of Newfoundlanders ranting and roaring and some of them are crazy enough to track down the maker of Magic Jack and stuff the Magic Jack up his ass!

if you'd bother to read more before posting here, you would find that it has always been common knowledge about the extra charges for CDN numbers, not to mention it's going to cost you $10 more EVERY year to keep it
Also, the area codes are NOT really set up by MJ, but are provided to them by local phone providers, so if you have a beef about NFLD area codes, you should be talking to Bell or whoever out there to supply them.
I'm not sure why it cost you $59 at BB, as I've never had to pay more than $42CDN here , and they're always available online for $39US, but I did pay the $10 to change my area code to CDN, and $10 for 1 years service, so that was normal.
otherwise, welcome to the site
