I recently bought a MJ from Best Buy, set up my MJ account, voicemail and even a forwarding number for incoming calls to my MJ number. After using the MJ for a few days, it wasn't for me so I returned it to the Best Buy where I purchased the unit.
My question is, how does MJ know I've returned this unit to Best Buy? Will I essentially have a free incoming virtual number (my MJ number) for the year that I've pre-paid for? After all, if MJ never knows that I've returned the unit, what reason would they have to cancel my number? This question came to mind because just tonight I received a wrong number call on my cell phone, which was actually a call to my MJ number that had been correctly forwarded to my cell.
Or, does Best Buy send all returned MJ units back to MJ so that the folks at MJ can check out the device serial number and then cancel the attached service accordingly?
You probably should have returned as defective so BestBuy doesn't try to resell the item and someone gets screwed because they can't properly register/use the MJ.

And if that unlikely event should happen, the customer will be able to simply return it to Best Buy for a refund, so no harm done. I did nothing wrong by returning it in the manner in which I did. One would also hope that the Best Buy staff realize that certain items (MJ in this example) are not things that can be re-sold for exactly the reason you mention.
Guys, you may not have noticed if you haven't had your magicJack unplugged for more than 30 days but when the magicJack hasn't connecteted to the site for more than 30 days, the account deactivates. Because of this, you will NOT be able to use the account for the entire year without the device.

I didn't know that, very useful information. Thanks for sharing!

OK... badly phrased... if the software doesn't contact the magicJack system for some time over 30 days, you have to log into the account to validate it again. So.... if you don't have the magicJack device and are not using any type of hack, you can't use the account.
OK... in your VAST experience, do you find any BS here ?

Dang, you may be right. And I bet if you don't have your speakers hooked up to your computer, after 30 days you won't be able to use them either.
hehehehehehe..
I think cable TV works the same way.. I best not go away without leaving my TV on while I am gone. ONLY, of course, if I go away for 30 days or more
Well... I thought I might find some intelligent conversation here but guess I was SERIOUSLY mistaken. You guys just like to "hear yourselves talk". Guess I'm done here. Hope this really helps you guys.

We have intelligent conversations when an intelligent posting is made. What would make you think you could use MagicJack without the device for one day let alone 30 days? Unless you hack into the system, which if you notice, doesn't seem to be working either.
I did include a hack qualification in the scenario above, nailgunner so you including it in your comment wasn't as original an idea as you thought.
So let me get this right now... as you grow more experienced, you have to initiate the new guy just to see if you can make him go away ?? Seems like that would be a waste of your time and "considerable talents" !
Maybe Dan is smarter than you guys give him credit for !
Now which of you wise asses has a clue about how to to fix the "beep" problem ?

I still want to know what about this doesn't bring a DUH from anyone who reads it?
cell14 wrote:I read something about 90 days. Certainly not 30 days, my mom did not use it for like 10 weeks and no problem.
If you pay for a year, only use it one day, you can still use it 11 months later.
He was saying if you don't have the device and aren't hacking into the system, you couldn't use the service after 30 days. You couldn't use the service after 30 minutes under his scenario (thus the DUH comment).

""We reserve the right to reclaim any telephone number that does not make a call for a consecutive 90 days. In the event that we reclaim a phone number and your software license is still active, you may choose another phone number.""
O.K. That's what I read- in MJ TOS. Whatever this exactly might mean.

I'm not a lawyer, I just play one on T.V., but I'm pretty sure it means that if you're still in your year of service, and they took your number back because you didn't use it, they will give you another number. So you can still use it, they can just make it a pain in the butt.
But I'm still pretty sure ole RonaldJBaker is right. No device and no hack means no service (30 seconds..30 minutes..30 hours, and even 30 days. )
