WHO is limiting my calls to Canada to 5 minutes?
I know many others here have the same problem, but someone at MJ should have the fix and/or right answer it would seem!? I've had mine for 2 months. I got the 5-year package. My U.S. calls are great. Every time I call a friend in Canada it disconnects at MY end after 5 minutes and she can still hear me. I'm not being blocked at my end, ie: DSL router, anti-virus, firewall, etc. Running Windows XP Pro on a laptop on the LAN hard wired from the router. Re-booted everything. Everyone's "fixes" here don't change a thing for me. So WHO or WHAT is timing my calls to Canada? I just want the answer/fix to get this to work like it should. IF MJ limits the calls, then they should have let the buyers know up front. If not this could lead to a class action law suit.

This might fix your problem
1.) Create a google voice account
2.) Enter (register) your magicjack number into your google voice account.
3.) At https://www.google.com/voice/#inbox Enter the Canadian number to call into upper left hand box in the "Place a call" menu.
4.) Your magicjack phone should ring so answer it. You should hear it ringing on the other end to the Canadian number.
Magic Jack should only see the U.S. google voice number and as it is also an incoming call so all should be well. Reply if it works. Thanks.
It has been brought to my attention that you will need a U.S. IP address to create a Google Voice account. Use http://download.cnet.com/hotspot-shield/
or http://openvpn.net/ to possibly get a US ip address. With openvpn.net you may need to disconnect and reconnect until a US IP address pops up.

Google Voice is not available in canada.Luxfestinus wrote:1.) Create a google voice account
Well intentioned advice i'm sure, but implementing such a work-around is preposterous jerry-rigged obfuscation.Luxfestinus wrote: Use http://download.cnet.com/hotspot-shield/

There is no 'local' fix that will work, and nothing you can do. Magicjack is imploding in canada.Kitmeister wrote:... Everyone's "fixes" here don't change a thing for me.
Re: This might fix your problem
We shouldnt have to create a google voice account.
We should be getting the service they advertise.

> I agree. What can be done? I have had the "chat" with two MJ techies, and all it amounted to was running the latest upgrade, which does not provide a fix for this 5 minute time out when calling Canada.

Please read http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/post65866.html#65866 for the solution. No longer a working solution.

more useless obfuscation
Sounds like more nonsensical tweaks that won't work, and make you curse even more than you are already.chucky365 wrote:Please read http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/post65866.html#65866 for the solution.
Before changing your dns, i would consider the sound advice from this fellow:
"Diggs 09/30/2010 Wow! I wouldn't give my network DNS duties to magicJack. That's crazy. " from http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/impr ... t9850.html
Edit Update: You retracted your 'solution' in another thread, so i'm pasting it here:"
chucky365 wrote:Well that didn't last long. Today I am back to the 5 minute limit with my Canadian number. When I changed to the setting Preferred DNS Server type in: 67.90.152.122, in Alternate DNS Server type in: 67.107.71.186 it only worked for one call. Then I registers and setup with OpenDNS and still have the 5 minute limit.

5 minute call drop fix
I can't take credit for this, as I read it somewhere else, on another thread, but it has worked for me and now my MJ is working normal - no more 5 min. call drops.
1. Get the uninstall majicjack.exe from the MJ website, and uninstall the software from your computer.
2. after the uninstall in done, wait 5 mins, and plug in the MJ, without the phone cord attatched. The Mj will start up and re-install itself.
3. connect phone cord and try a test call. It has worked for me without fail and have been using it for 3 days now very suceesfully.
Good luck....................hope it helps

re 5 minute cut
when i uninstalled and then reinstalled, the MJ worked fine for 3 days, then the 5 minute cut began all over again.
i spent time on the chat line with different techs, changing the ports on my router and other tricks, and sometimes i get to call as normal, other times the 5 minute cut returns.
this seems to be a software problem that came about a few weeks ago, and the big guys at MJ need to send out a upgrade fix.
