Using BOTH MagicJack for phone and Skype for video calls

I recently installed MagicJack as a replacement for my home phone. Everything seemed to be working great ... until I tried to Skype with my parents on video. I placed the Skype call with video as I usually do, but I now get an error that says "Problem with recording device" and the call disconnects.

Based on that error message, I checked my settings in Skype to make sure the speakers, microphone and camera are all set to the correct devices (which they are). I have read the boards on here that talk about how to use your MJ dongle with Skype and a cordless phone, but that appears to be if you want to use Skype for your regular phone as well.

Is there a way to use both MJ as my regular home phone and still Skype with video?

Skype is telling me it cannot access my sound card. I have stopped both MJ processes from running on my computer and I get the same message. Ideas?

Not really unless your sound card drivers have gotten "out of wack" or Windows (or the Skype dialer) has somehow confused itself on the internal audio device numbering sequence it uses.

In regards to troubleshooting, you should try the following:

1. Unplug your magicJack USB dongle.

2. Double check and make sure you have the very latest version of the Skype dialer installed from http://www.skype.com .

3. Restart your computer to help ensure it is in a stable known state.

4. Once you get your Skype video calls working with your sound card correctly plug back in your magicJack USB dongle and then re-test again.
