What do you think of NetTalk DUO Audio Quality?
I think IMO the MJ has better audio over the NT if you have your MJ running at its best. I have noticed IMO the NT audio is clear and pure like a regular landline and a tad on the low side. However overall performance has surpassed the MJ thats for sure and i hope its not due to less server congestion. I did a test with someones NT yesterday and we ran it USB only with a beta driver and it had great out going and terrible incoming that no matter who u are it had clipping in the audio on receive even if you were on a paid ma bell phone. I tinkered a lil with the latest dynamnic link library file and i must admit now in USB mode runs like a MJ audio is crisp and clear and so is receive, I think maybe i had to go thru this BS with a friend because it was run on Win7. All major problems i notice is with that OS. I just wish NT would update the DLL file and do testing more often and writing a DLL is'nt rocket science. Today will be a test to see with this person from 1500 miles away and we will see if it stays that way. The NT duo even in the USB mode IMO i give it a 99.6% rating out of 100%. It does'nt breakup and you MAY get a rare clip in audio once in a blue moon, Testing was done USB and a wifi connection 275 feet away with one bar on his dell computer. Test result was fantastic. Again as this company is not mature a very heavy load on its servers in time will degrade it but with there reputation so far this may never be a issue. With that said i give the NT Duo a overall rating of 99.7%. On the other hand when free is'nt free i prefer the Ooma Telo because of audio quality and many other features. The Telo is a tank and does not run USB at all and there is a $3.84 monthly FCC fee and a $9.99 Prem service fee if you choose to keep it. With that said the NT Duo hardware alone is better then the MJ but the good ole MJ IMO has audio louder then the NT. At this time i have no answer to upgrade " Loudness" but give it time im only testing with another unit thats in another state. And i have always been independant of what a MFR may say and fix it myself if software related. All in all the NT Duo gets a thumbs up and is a GREAT device to buy because it works well and like anything in life NOTHING lasts forever except death & Taxes

Good notes.
One thing NT would do in the past: If you put in a trouble ticket for low volume, they would log into your device and raise the volume setting.

Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:
-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)
Shaken, not stirred.
Google Voice is the chaser.

Thats correct, They did that to my buddy in NY but no good and they had a tad of a problem. I think in his case it's a cross between Win7 OS and the beta driver. When i messed with the driver the 3 of us on a 3-way another buddy in Long Island said you got it. If he's still ok today i think NT may have to look deeper into the USB driver for the WIN7 OS. However i only tested my NT for about a hr. I give mine a 99.9% rating as i don't run it USB or even interested too. However im not using Win7 and with a AT&T cordless audio is fantastic and crisp and clear but IMO it's just lacking just a little in the audio gain dept. The Ooma on the other hand i rate 100% because everything is there and using there telo handset it's as studio quality as you can get however the Ooma with a cordless phone in my case a AT&T the Ooma drops to 99.8% IMO. I don't want ppl to think anything wrong i am running the Ooma with a custom setup and i'll be the first to admit that " I DO get a RARE clip in audio " once in a blue moon or NONE. ( Clipping is NOT broken up or chopping it's like a very small scratch on a record sound that goes so fast u need a ear to hear it )

Sorry im on EST plus i stay up late and get up early....They go into the device ummm. I get into all of this within time. I will see with there remote if they can up the output audio gain. If so i'd love him to load a tracer on his puter so i can see what and how there doing it. If USB related i'd think it would be done thru the OS but again i have not had much time with the NT. Mine is registered and 1hr on it and back in box until i feel like doing that project. The Ooma was a pain to get it to my standards and almost 2 weeks and at least 100 hrs devoted to it. The NT Duo i don't even consider that will be the case.
ok, correct me if I am wrong, but all this testing you are doing on the NT is with it running physically attached to a computer not a router, correct? my reason for asking is because I am running win 7 ultimate 32bit but I do plan to attach my NT to the router not directly to the computer, so will the audio be any different? will it be louder connected directly to the router?gashliquor wrote:Nobody beats the Whiz! wrote:Good notes.

Running thru the Router and thru a USB port is two different things, Running the NetTalk from a LAN port of your router will blow away the USB hookup. The USB hookup is NOT running the device as a ATA and it depends on the computer. The system im testing is Win7 64 Bit, Plus NT USB driver is STILL beta which for some reason is a little sour to me because i program and if i need to do something i do it and get it done. With all that said i even own a NT Duo also but tried it only for 1 hr and it was flawless BUT IMO i noticed something. In NY i have a person running Win7 64 bit USB and im running Vista 32 bit but im running it as a ATA thru a LAN port in the router. Both setups are stable but the router route setup as a ATA is better by far. Actually the MJ IMO sounds better in the USB mode to call it. However running it at USB or as a ATA what i have npticed the audio is nice and crystal clear BUT IMO the audio is half as loud then a MJ. Both of us are using different models of AT&T cordless phones. Maybe it does'nt like cordless phones. I called NetTalk support and asked them if they can increase the audio output and they said they can NOT do that EVEN though they can get into the inside of the NT via remote. There answer is try another phone. Well I'll buy 10 phones from Best Buy and return 9 and have my friend in NY on a POTS line tell me which one sings da best. IMO new or old AT&T Cordless phones i do not like the out going volume level however the incoming is ok. The AT&T i use on the MJ and Ooma works fine and so does the guy in Ny's phone work good on those devices too but not the NT and we both have way different AT&T phones like mines a 2yr plus 5.8 ghz and his is a few month old 6.0 ghz DECT. I could and so can everyone live with the audio but im picky. My audio out of the Ooma i sound like Imus in the morning. Pure studio audio, Well no matter what i will up the audio one way or another by buying multi phone models and returning them or getting a phone that lower but clean and build a external filtered output Amp. So i don't lose either way. Being that i said all that the NT STILL beats the crap out of the MJ. and IMO i would NOT buy the NT Duo for use on USB unless there programmer puts more time into it and it gets alot better as they released beta drivers every few months. To program a DLL is'nt rocket science and it is'nt Hard Core programming so i know the DLL is'nt getting programmed here in the U.S. because i looked at every bit of code in it. It is fair to say that someone that has a problem FREE MJ IMO will at this TIME kill the NT in audio in USB being the MJ is a native USB device but the MJ will out do the NT audio wise even in the ATA configuration. The NT audio is SUPER it just needs about 20-30% output audio and it would be a freak device. Using the NT device with speaker phone and turning down your receive volume works well depending on the phone used, However thats a half ass way to run something. I did have NY use whats called a VTech phone which i know them as usually low budget and it blew away the AT&T phones. The device works like all ppl say its just i need that audio yjay ppl on the other end make a remark like damn that audio is clean etc and very pleasant to hear. Which the NT is out of the box. It's just the VOLUME level suffers and it may NOT bother MANY but i know the way audio should sound thru a phone.

Maybe I will have to look into these v-tech phones. any particular model? what model of the v-tech phone did you friend in NY use?
My friend does scrap for extra $, He got it from the dumps the VTech however i seen someone on here say they said they used that phone and audio was great. When he ( My Friend In NY ) used the one he had it blew away phones 3x the cost on the NT. I'd really love for someone to chime in here using a NT Duo and a cordless phone and has audio equal or louder then a MJ's audio and tell us what brand, Make and model u have. Because i will go thru 25 phones and test and bring everyone back until the NY men tell me THATS THE ONE. The NT Duo does not like AT&T cordless phones from what i seen but the MJ and Ooma plays well with them on my end.

@ Nugrl, Some of those phones are built very well but the NT does what it says but i don't like the sound of AT&T used with it. We are going to test a Panasonic soon. Once i hear it i'll know. My NT and MJ are'nt even hooked up and don't need them either but i want the Ooma and NT to run full time. I just have to find which phone it really likes for max audio. The Quality is there but the loudness is'nt.

Hearing is fine on NT, Im talking your audio level to your caller.

The NT works WELL both ways, I just prefer the out going audio NOT the incoming a bit louder
aahhhh....... I see ....... well I would like it to be loud both ways, that way I would rather have to turn it down as opposed to trying to turn it up and having no volume control left to go up.gashliquor wrote:Nugrl wrote:oh so you are saying that can't hear us very well? magicJack might as well not offer any support, because all they do is make you more frustrated by the time you are done!
All companies are going to have some kind of problem every now and then, but how they handle those problems are the key! mj chooses to treat there customers like mushrooms (keep them in the dark and feed them crap), and they constantly make promises that they don't keep.
I see netTalk has both email and toll free support... I personally prefer both those methods to chat. So what are your experiences with netTalk?
Customer service even will logon to your puter and fix your problem if u can't but so does MJ today. Like you said forget MJ. Friend in NY just called his NT Duo just took a dump after 24 hrs LOL, He has to wait for a return ticket and they will send him another one!

Even though ppl are running there NT Duo ATA style 99.9% run it with the buggy USB Beta drivers for a little bit here and there i want to see if the device takes a shit, OH about NT audio YES its great but the volume level out going audio sucks. It could be IMO 20% or more louder. The MJ kills the NT out going audio level and that depends if you know what your doing with your MJ and the Ooma just laughs at the NT's out going audio. It may NOT be anyones phone either. I did'nt get the chance to murder the NT Duo YET but i will. It could not be phone related either it could be what ever you plug into it the out going frequency responce sucks, Most ppl if they can hear each other and they don't breakup or CLIP it's like WOW. NT does'nt even have as many servers as MJ. WAIT until or if it ever happens that NT get big as MJ what you may sound like with 20 million on a single server lol. The price the CEO of NetTalk gave me the unit for is like shipping and at that price they sent it NEXT day anyway. But yeah MJ changed alot but it still blows away the NT in alot of ways for ppl that know what there doing. Its simple to say just plug that NT into a empty LAN slot and talk and thats true and YES again its CLEAR and yes AGAIN receive is great BUT the out going AUDIO LEVEL sucks not the quality of the audio, There tech support can have alot SOMETIMES to be desired if you know more then them but then again what are you going to get from a person paid $5.00 hr in 2010, Also there is NO internal setting inside of the NT Duo that they can login and turn up either and nothing you can do to get into it either.....YET SO FAR

New netTALK DUO User = Very Pleased
I'm a new netTALK DUO user for about a week now and so far, I'm very pleased with it's performance. It has worked flawlessly to date. Nice to be able to simply plug it into an Ethernet port and be up and running without any hassle. No PC, no thin client, no ATA = Very Cool. This little bugger isn't much bigger than a magicJack and is loud and clear on both inbound and outbound calls. Any and all questions I had before purchasing were answered quickly and accurately too. netTALK DUO appears to be doing it all right and maintains a keen focus on customer satisfaction. That's a big plus in my book.
I'm not affiliated with netTALK in any fashion, aside from simply being a very pleased new customer.

I was hoping you were'nt using a private branch exchange, The NT Duo by itself is a ATA of it's own. However the audio in LOUDNESS only IMO is'nt up to par with the MJ and the Ooma just blows them all away and thats the Ooma Telo model using there HD Handset which prior Ooma hardware can't use.

The NetTalk audio is clear and plenty loud enough, better both ways then verizon has ever been.
The MJ was better too, though I feel the NetTalk voice quality is the best.

I probably posted this info in the wrong thread so I am re-posting it here:
YAY! Just got my NetTalk Duo today. It took 6 days from order date to delivery. I have it hooked up thru the router. Its a Belkin N+ Wireless F5D8235-4. So far so good. I only made a couple of test calls, and sound quality so far is good. I am using an older Panasonic 5.8Ghz model# KX-TGA560M. I am hearing a little hissing I guess you would call it in the background. I also notice there is a delay. I test called to one of my other MJ's here and while I was 2 rooms away talking to my son, I could hear him talk about 4 seconds sooner than I could hear it in the phone, but since normal calling won't be with it person in the other room, I will probably never would have known that. I am going to try a couple of other phones I have here at some point today to see if any of them are any better. One is another Panasonic Dect 6.0 model# KX-TGA101S another is an AT&T Dect 6.0 model# EL52209. I am still thinking about the V-tech phone that sabresfan suggested. My only concern with it, well two concerns, the exact model he suggested does not have an answering machine and I need that, but they do sell a model with it in, and two, from what reviews I read about it online, it does not display the Call Waiting Caller ID, and I need that too. I am not absolutely sure about that yet though. I need to someone who has this phone to confirm that. So if anyone could confirm that a V-tech Model# CS-6329-3 (this one has an answering machine in it and you get 3 handsets with it) or the V-tech model# CS-6319-2 (this one has no answering machine and you get 2 handsets with it) does or does not display Call Waiting Caller ID, I sure would appreciate it . I think sabresfan said he has the V-tech model# CS-6319-2 along with oldtimercurt. I will post back my test results on the other phones I have here running with the NT Duo.
update: Ok so far I have tested 2 of my phones here with the NT. The Panasonic 5.8Ghz and the AT&T Dect 6.0, and I am still not sure which is better of the two. I tested with my son on one of the MJ lines with him using the Panasonic Dect 6.0 and me on the other two. OMG, I think I am getting myself confused here. I will need to test them further later when other son returns home. My son that is here testing with me is too involved in leading a raid on warcraft and just keeps yelling at me that he is busy right now so the test probably is not accurate.
update: bad news, the older Panasonic 5.8Ghz phone had my voice cutting out on me. I was told that by the person that I called. She said that she could hear me but it was almost like I was on a cellphone and in a bad area or something. She said my voice was cutting out and fading in and out. Whats up with that??

NetTalk Duo And Cordless Phones
Im done with my testing with NetTalk Duo and CORDLESS phones, To make it short and sweet YES some of the VTech's were very good and some were like OH MY GOD....IMO the winner with near perfect audio and sound quality and bass and treble responce is a " DECT 6.0 PLUS" which is NOT the same as a DECT 6.0. The make and model # is a Panasonic KX-TG6532 and for $90.00 is only a 2 phone set with MANY features and talking caller id and i can go on. I have to admit the men at Uniden done a good job on there phones that i would say IMO the Uniden phones were also top shelf " NOT ALL MODELS" but the Panasonic DECT 6.0 Plus KX-TG6532 beat them all as far as the NetTalk Duo is concerned in audio.
