Here's the deal... No matter what I've tried in network bandwidth management, no matter how low a priority I make any other network traffic, I can not get MJ to be clear and problem free when other network traffic exists.
I need to find a way to have other net traffic be "paused" when MJ is recieving or making a call. The primary program I need paused is Bit Torrent when uploading or downloading. Is there a way to find the "call to focus" command that causes MJ window to appear so I can write a program that uses that call to invoke a command to pause another program?
Thanks!

Hi, not sure about controlling bit torrent, but would a Hawkings Broadband Booster HBB1 do the job? It's hardware to give voip priority on the upload. Check ebay for current prices. If you are in the US, check Amazon.com.Hobby wrote:I need to find a way to have other net traffic be "paused" when MJ is recieving or making a call.
Hobby
Here's the manufacturer's description (no longer manufactured I don't think)

This is something of a paradox, where in you need to set the priority to a high number to give it a low priority. mj needs to be given a priority of 1.Hobby wrote: no matter how low a priority I make any other network traffic,

Well, in using a program called "Net Balancer", I can scan all programs that use bandwidth on my computer and set their priority for either upload , download, or both AND set the ratio of bandwidth that a low priority/high priority gets. In my case, I have the other traffic set to "low" and the MJ set to "high" on both upload and download. Additionally, I set the low priority to only use the smallest percentage of total BW that is allowable through this program and the high priority gets the balance(on the order of 10%-90%)KMNugent52 wrote:This is something of a paradox, where in you need to set the priority to a high number to give it a low priority. mj needs to be given a priority of 1.Hobby wrote: no matter how low a priority I make any other network traffic,

It really is a cool program... just not enough.
Possibly. I remembered seeing this in search for my answer in this forum but was a bit discouraged that it was no longer available. I'm about to switch ISP to something quite a bit faster anyway. Will see if that makes any difference(probably not) and then will go from there.tony wrote:would a Hawkings Broadband Booster HBB1 do the job? It's hardware to give voip priority on the upload.
I could write a program to do what I need IF I could find the "mechanism" that calls for MJ to be "in focus" when a call is received or made. In order to create an event handler in my program, I must first find the call for that event by MJ.
I would prefer to use software to solve the issue over hardware as I'm wanting to impliment this into an overall HTPC package and get rid of all the little "boxes" I've got connected to the computer and home theater set up.

Alright... After I played some more with the "NetBalancer" program, I realized that there was a setting that I forgot to ammend. That setting determines when the "balancer" actually kicks in. I had set it to kick in at 80% of full bandwidth till tonight but after re-setting it to 0% (balance regardless of load) the program worked like a champ!!! No more cutting out or jittery connection!!
Thank you all for replying and if any of you are using XBMC and want a skin for MJ to match a skin in XBMC, let me know. That will be one of my next endeavors in integrating my phone with my HTPC!

Re: Amazon, yeah some good prices there but unfortunately they won't ship to sellers outside the US! There's a Canadian version of Amazon but books only, no hardware.oldtimercurt wrote:Actualy you may be able to get the Hawking from Amazon. Just got mine the other day.
Just checked and only used and 1 refurb.

Hey, that's a good price. I'm seeing the units at about $63 (shipping included). There seems to be a steady supply of the broadband boosters out there even though they are discontinued.notdeadyet wrote:I found one last month on Ebay for $52 shipped to Canada, so they are still around! Happy hunting
