My Final Chapter of my (2) MJs
I've been doing some reading in this great forum.
After retrieving my MJs’ credentials 4 months ago, I've never found the need to plug its USB dongle to any PC. I was happy by using my iPhone for making voIP calls. This worked out great for as long as it lasted. Now that it seems I'm forced to plug the (stupid) dongle back in my PC, (this is what I was dreading for months, for the obvious reasons), of course MJ's server it's going to push-update the fw, screwing it up even further, making even more difficult to keep the credentials constant in order to limit the users not to use its service without MJ dongles, ie. like on ATA, iPhone, etc., it is to force us to keep the dongle plugged in at all times... sure... as the product was “intend” to be used. I guess it's a fair game. I'll have to agree.
Soon, very soon I’ll be saying farewell to MJ, too.
I’ve had a Canadian telephone number with my MJs. I was wondering if you folks can provide me your expert advice / your first-hand experience with a superb product and service like the netTALK Duo, yet offering Canadian area code as well.
-I’ll be very grateful to your suggestion and feedback - thanks!

What i read Nettalk can issue you a canadian phone number for 5.99 a month in addition canandian 911 is being worked on but no time frame as of yet when it is to be implemented
Yea MJ is fighting the BYOD crowd by adding checksum and rotating cedentials what i understand. IF it was my decision they should allow it for a little higher price. this would add flexibility to the service

Thanks for your insight.
"What i read Nettalk can issue you a canadian phone number for 5.99 a month in addition canandian 911..."
I truly hope you're wrong about the $5.99/month and that you "read" it form an unreliable source. Because $71.88+29.95/year just for having a Canadian local number from netTalk, they can surely count me OUT 1000 times over!
Anyhoo, I emailed netTalk in that regards, also among few other questions. If you wish, I can post their reply.

I second that! I often wonder... we, the end-user, must've missed something in business education (101), since your statement makes too much sense - wishful thinking to all of us though!

I hope i' wrong too but that's what i read on the NT forum. plz let me know if i am i will look it up some more to be sure..
here is a quote from the admin of NetTalk
We currently do have some Canadian numbers for our customers, but at this time having a Canadian number costs $5.99 a month. For more info you can contact Tech Support and they can explain the process of allocating a Canadian number to your account.
You are 1,000,000% right about the $5.99/Month for offering Canadian locale numbers. Well, they keep it then... for 71.88+29.99/Year for Canadian numbers vs. 29.99 for US numbers... I'm not that (bleep) desperate to have them as for my voIP provider.
The following was made to me as official as it can be. It's straight from the 'horse's mouth' after I emailed netTalk, that's their respond:
"Yes, there is a $5.99 monthly fee for obtaining and keeping a Canadian phone number. In regards to what numbers we have, you may simply provide us with the area code you wish to have and we can search our databases for what we currently have in the specified area. Once we have a number that meets your satisfaction, we will go ahead and place that number onto your netTALK account."

I'm in Canada. I ordered a NetTalk Duo. But i wanted a US number. I did ask them if they offer Canadian Numbers and they said yes. Plenty of them in different area codes across Canada. It is $29.99 for the year + $5.99/mth for Canadian Number premium. Which is pretty much around $100 a year.
I have MagicJack and i'm getting rid of them and switching to NetTalk.
Reasons.
1. MagicJack went down for a week and they blamed phone companies as they had nothing to do with it. BULLSHIT!!!
2. NetTalk Has live technical support that when i called and drilled them with questions, they had answers on the spot, not copy/paste. I actually spoke to someone. I called 3 times, and spoke with 3 different people, each of them knew what they were doing.
3. NetTalk has an application to download for smartphones (Blackberry,iphone...) so that you can use your phone's dataplan to make long distance calls through the NetTalk Application. Use don't use any of your minutes on your phone, you can make calls as if you were using your NetTalk landline...From your cellphone, for FREE.
I use my MagicJack for a business line for my US clients to call me and me to call them. I can't have poor service like this from MagicJack. I'm waiting for my Nettalk to arrive and then i'm porting my number to voipo(dot)com and have them forward my magicjack vanity number to my Nettalk number. Nettalk doesn't offer Porting numbers yet, but they said it's coming soon. They are working on it. Maybe early new year Jan-Feb, but no guarantees as to that timeline. Voipo charges $35/year to forward the number anywhere in Canada and USA.
Small price to pay to leave MagicJack. Especially since i use it as my USA business line that everyone calls. It has to work properly.

I would not let a real money making business totally depend on a cheap VOIP service but that's just me.Especially since i use it as my USA business line that everyone calls. It has to work properly.
Do you run some comprehensive tests on your line in order to determine your quality of service ? I do, and the results are unfortunately in line with the MJ performance.
I have a family member living in a certain european country . She has MJ plugged into an computer which normally would be in a recycling center.
I call her usually from my cell, and the quality is allmost without exception as if I called my neighbor's land line. Stunning.Better than my own MJ.

I could not agree with you more. I have mentioned that to a few others as well. I cannot for the LIFE of me, understand why anyone would rely on any VOIP if they are using it for important business. If you are spending $40 a year for MJ, or $80 a year (or whatever it is) for NetTalk, I'm assuming your business isn't that important to you.cell14 wrote:I would not let a real money making business totally depend on a cheap VOIP service but that's just me.Especially since i use it as my USA business line that everyone calls. I can see maybe IF your business allows you to spend lots of time troubleshooting connection issues, but to walk into a store and buy a $40 or $80 device to rely on? I certainly hope you are making better decisions for the rest of your business.
