Is there danger in selling a used MJ with 911 address on it?
I have two Magic Jacks. One of them is active and the other is not. I am thinking about selling one, maybe both, of them. I am concerned because my home address is on the 911 info on both of them, and I know of no way to get it off. If I sell them, is there a danger that someone could have my address on the display, call 911, and by mistake would have the cops sent to my house, if my address shows up on the 911 operator's screen? I know that the new owner could add their address to the 911 thing, but I am worried that the MJ could fall into the hands of an irresponsible person and that there would be the possibility of the afore mentioned scenario. Any advice, opinions and ideas are welcome.

I could be wrong, but I think the 911 service lies with MJ server, just as the contacts list does....I have 2 MJs, one with a CDN #, and the other with a US #. I signed in for the 911 with the US one awhile back when they first allowed Canadians to finally do so, then it disappeared a couple a weeks later, and still is not available...yet when I connected my CDN MJ for the first time since September, BEFORE we had CDN 911 service, my 911 service was available with my address already included on the MJ softphone...so where did it come from if not the MJ server??? I believe when I registered my address with my US MJ, it became part of my account info online, not saved within the MJ unit itself
Thanks for the input. The thing that bothers me is that the old 911 info is still available on the screen popup. It also has my brother-in-law's address in Wisconsin, because he had used it for awhile, when it was first active with a different number. When I reactivated it, all of names and numbers in the contact list were gone but the 911 addresses are still on the list. However, when I bring one of them up it has the yellow tab. I went to the MJ website and it said that means: "YELLOW: We can not immediately identify your physical location. Verification may take a few days." That makes me think that more needs to happen before there would be a response to one of the addresses that I have listed. That would be good, but I need to make sure.notdeadyet wrote:I could be wrong, but I think the 911 service lies with MJ server, just as the contacts list does....I have 2 MJs, one with a CDN #, and the other with a US #. From the FAQ on the MJ website, as of Dec 6, 2010 the FAQ saysBob859 wrote:...The thing that bothers me is that the old 911 info is still available on the screen popup. .
Currently, you may not delete a 911 Emergency Service location.
We will have this functionality soon.
So seems you cannot yet delete 911 addresses you've stored. Try calling MJ support? See if they can remove it from their end.
For your personal safety perhaps just give or sell the MJ's to people you know (and where their knowing your home address is not an issue). Also you need to explain to them about the 911 address that's registered with the MJ in case they take the MJ travelling or they in turn sell/give the MJ to someone else who may end up calling 911 and not know the implications.
The only number that I could find for MJ Customer Service was listed as for billing only. I called anyway, but got tired of waiting before they answered. I might try again, and if I do I will post the result here, if I get through to a live person.tony wrote:If you do end up calling MJ support to see if they can remove the 911 addresses, can you update us here please?Bob859 wrote:Thanks for the info.
I was successful in reaching a CSR via chat. I was told that there is no way that they can delete the 911 info from their end. He mentioned that their engineers are working on it and that this feature will be available soon via our own computers.
