Does a new magic jack scan your area or you input manually?

Trying to remember how it was, it was ages ago. Since trying to send one to the Philippines.

This says you have to do it first in the US then send it, but doesn't say so as an absolute must.

And since it's been like 2-3 yrs we've been using it without any trouble I can't remember how it went. Does it scan for our area code. Or do we input the address manually? If it's just manual then there's no need to mess with it first and just have it sent to the Philippines already.
