Magicjack on Thin Client Is a Waste of Money

I have an Alpman thin client running magicjack.....

it rarely works. in the unusual event you can place a call, it will probably be the only one you can make unless you reboot the machine.

If you accidently dial the wrong number...forget it....you'll have to reboot...

its set to reboot everyday....doesn't seem to do anything to help.

magicjack is not there yet....thin client or not....

I "ASSUME" you updated your TC to 512/512 after the MAJOR update in Oct?? MJ consumes more resourses now..
I do not have a TC but "FOR ME" it has worked perfectly for over 2 years now. So yep, it is there for me and MANY others on here..

thanks joe, prob why mine keeps loosing the mj and I have to re-fire the mj every few hours or so ...

i need to look at the TC ...

Its been like this for over a year now....pretty much since I first bought it from alpman....

the stats in the my computer properties are:

797 MHz
112 MB Ram

on the C drive it shows 5.72 GB

but that is because I believe he put a tiny hard drive in there....

I changed the virtual memroy from 256 to 512....but it doesn't seem to be doing anything to help....

with such a slow processor do you think it would start working right with a 512 stick of ram? Or would it be best to just look at buying a different thin client?

its a HP t5000...or at least it says that on the side of the box....

My old laptop only has 128mb of ram and MJ runs like junk on it now. On my regular machine MJ runs perfectly. I would look and see if this thin client could be updated but I'm not an expert at these. Hopefully one of the thin client geniuses will have an answer or a better suggestion.

First, MJ work perfect(for me) for over a year, i am saving tons of money, no more phone bills for me, with that said, magicjack will work as well as your computer can perform, some people are computer iliterate, (not trying to offend any one ) if you are in that cathegory, your best bet
is to find some one to help you configure your computer.

or if you are willing to learn , this is the right place, ask questions, and will find out that there are many people in this forums that are willing to help,

my experience with thin clients, have been great, i bought a lot of five t5720 on e bay for very cheap, i red this forums for many hours, and did some learning

and came to the conclusion, (at least for me) the best set up i could find
from a thin client was a hard drive, i installed a 2.5 IDE 20gb on all of my TC`s installed a full version of WINXP 512ram allready came with them they work flawlessly, occasionally i get a little spike now and than
nothin major, HEY 20 BUCKS A YEAR can`t beat that.

no worries about upgrades, everything is fine

i also tested micro drives, and CF flash drives and encounter some problems with them that in my opinion are unnecesary headakes
but that is just my opinion

avoid the headakes, just put a HD on a tc 512ram WIN XP FULL VERSION and happy phoning.

in my line of work, i am most of the time on the road, so i got 5 different area codes, i call home local from almost any were, in my working route.

Actually for me its been great also. I will be hitting two years Dec 31st and have loved it so far. My only advice is to make sure you have the higher end thin client such as TC5720 1Ghz/1G/1G so that there are no issues. Clear sound and quality is great. Call Canada sometimes 2-3 times a day. Today is Christmas and have called my parents in Canada from the US 3 times already with perfect sound quality and talked for a total of an hour at least. Having a good internet connection such as a cable also helps. So, its NOT a waste of money but you save a crap load of money.

What you should have said is that its been as waste of YOUR money since you evidently didnt know what you were doing and/or buying.
I have two WYSE thin clients running magic jacks just fine. Only paid approx $60 apiece for those clients on ebay.

It's an issue that you find throughout this forum, IMO. There are so many parts to the puzzle that have to be working right. The MJ device, the computer (thin or not), the modem, maybe a router, your ISP connection and possibly cloud coverage over Florida, who knows.

The only thing different about this one is blaming it on the thin client instead of Dan.

I would like to point out that this adds substantial unwanted cost to most thin client installations. A 1 GB FLASH chip is always cheaper (and less hassle) than a hard drive (and all hard drives will some day fail - not saying the FLASH won't also). And WinXPe is free from the TC maker unlike a full version of WinXP which adds another ~$100.

I have a HP 5710. Paid $72 (including shipping) for it on EBay last year. I had to pay another $16 (includes shipping) for 512MB Flash memory after update. MJ has saved me $45 x 12 months =$540.
I use a Netgear Router and Time Warner cable.

Year 1 = $540 savings from phone bill (invested $72+16=$88)
Total savings = $452

i bought a used 5710 on ebay for $45.00. i put a 1gb ide flash for $27.10. and i put a 512 dimm in the unit and that was in may of 2008 and it has worked everyday since. HolmanGT and i set the thing up over the phone and i have taken every update that mj has put out and it still works just like the first day i started using it. i have put 3 different versions on the mj in it. the first version, second version and the latest version and all three of them work like a charm. so it can be done.
