Looks like we will be getting a Nettalk Duo clone now at a cheaper price ($49.99).

I'm gonna have to checkout the prices of thin clients soon. If Dan and company actually come through on the timeline for a change hopefully the price of some of the higher end thin clients will come down some. I wonder if MJ will let people who have the five year deal transfer over to the ata. If not I may as well get a thin client to use with MJ as using my pc just isn't fun anymore (dam thing works without any problems).

I seen this, It all sounds good. I told you b4 MJ had to do something as nt is getting in there way of ( Money ). Will Dan change
, Hell with the device make it BYOD AND that would be a killer to many. Just think if Dan had the brains and did a BYOD for 5000 mins a month for $2.50 a month he'd have 6x the money he has now in no time
, At this point if your thinking about buying a TC i think IMO it would be a complete waste of $ unless you got it for free. Think this way to, He comes out with this new device to what work on the already congested servers

From an economics standpoint, I gotta believe this new device will connect back to the same MJ support infrastructure which is already in place.newtoncd wrote:Wonder if they are going to block exchanges like they do with the regular magicJack. Thoughts?
That being the case, then whatever is blocked today would still be blocked when using the MJ Plus.

MagicJack Plus
IMO and i can be wrong when and if this device is released i don't think Dan is stupid enough to have these devices running on the same servers with blocked area codes, I think he may shut down some servers he has to be used on this device only and have the old MJ run on the same old servers the same way, He will maybe take some MJ servers offline and they will be used with this new mj device makes sense to keep up with netTalk. If he don't netTalk has way less sever congestion. However a real ATA is the way to go but people today want everything for almost nothing and as the old saying goes you don't get nothing for nothing. Old MagicJack $39.99 w/Yr service and a TC between 50-100 bux. That makes real sense
, Those that worry about if this new device will cost .99 cents to run a month or more in electric is a joke. Wake up and smell the coffee your in 2011

I agree that paying good money for anything MJ right now is crazy. I'm just gonna see if Dan & company actually meet a timeline for a change and some people on ebay then need to unload them once demand falls off. Then I ask myself a question. Is MJ's ata device gonna be better than a thin client running magicfeatures. Call hunting is nice but it's not the one feature that's gonna make me wanna run out and get another MJ product.
That's exactly my thoughts, when I saw the March date I wondered if this is just a way to get some press now that Nettalk has stolen some of their numbers. If it actually comes through it will be interesting to see if the service will be comparable to using MJ on an ATA. When it worked, it worked great, my only complaint was the 90 minute limit on outgoing calls and the blocking of the free conference calling numbers.sabresfan wrote:I'm just gonna see if Dan & company actually meet a timeline for a change

I can't believe what I'm reading! People! When has MJ EVER made ANY timeline they've put out??
I'm still a relative newby to magicJack....coming up on my first year of usage but if my eleven months of MJ experience has taught me anything, it's Not To Hold My Breath concerning any new releases from MJ when they say it's gonna be released.
Remember, it was last year's CES that Dan showed off his FemtoJack. I'm still waiting on THAT!
To you Dan......I really like your service but your release dates for new stuff is about as believable as pigs flying.
I hope I'm wrong.

This time he ( Dan) may have no choice but to produce as Net Talk is kicking his ass and taking $$ out of his pocket. I mean I "ASSUME" the reason for all of the MJ blocking is $$ ( high rural termination fees).. So since NT is affecting his bottom line he may now have the incentive to actually deliver on a promise. OF course that does not mean I am holding my breath!V-Man wrote:I can't believe what I'm reading! People! When has MJ EVER made ANY timeline they've put out??

I agree the competition is coming out with better products at a competitive price. If not for magicfeatures and others in this forum there would not have been any other real features added to MJ. Why they have never come out with their own software like this is beyond me or why they have tried to block the use of features like this that only add to their service has never made sense to me.bitstopjoe wrote:This time he ( Dan) may have no choice but to produce as Net Talk is kicking his ass and taking $$ out of his pocket. Oh crap.....really?!?neo2121 wrote: he Femtojack got killed by the FCC
That's news to me. The last I'd heard was from an article on dslreports.com that came out in late July of 2010.
http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Magi ... ack-109516
Dan was partnering up with an unnamed cell phone carrier to get around the FCC restrictions.
So, has there been some info released since then? I just tried googling "femtojack" but came up with nothing more recent than the link above.

There does seem to be some confusion. I think it has been settled opinion that MJ was getting so much flak that they either killed the project or have set it aside for a "while".V-Man wrote:Oh crap.....really?!?neo2121 wrote: he Femtojack got killed by the FCC![]()

My Google search showed the same thing, nothing much past July.
This one said as of that date they had not even submitted anything to the FCC (of course I'm not sure they submit anything to the FCC):

And I did find a few forum posts that assert it's dead:

But I'm not sure the FCC has officially done or said anything on the subject.

Ya know, even if YMAX were to release the FemtoJack tomorrow, I'm not sure it would be enough to compete with NetTalk's smart phone apps. I don't currently use a smart phone but from what little I can glean from the app advertisement on NT's web site, theirs is a more efficient approach to using VoIP as a way to save cell minutes. Pretty cool actually. May be 'bout time for this old man to start considering a smart phone upgrade.

OMG Dan must have alot of dingy blonds working for him they don't even know what a ATA device is lol They would make soooo much more money when their silly magicjack Plus comes out if they give you your SIP credentials so we can configure our own High End ATA devices. If they are worried they cant offer support for BYOD users ATA its simple have a disclaimer on their site saying they will not offer support for 3rd party ATA
Just offer the SIP information and let us use the service without breaking any stupid TOS agreement or what ever.
Have you noticed that nettalk's website looks more professional and more user friendly ??? I bet nettalk will offer SIP info to customers way before magicjack does DAN has way too many blond bimbos working for him

Don't ever count on that!, There are netTalk customers waiting for either a replacement/Refund of up to two months, netTalk ever going BYOD and give you your SIP creds for 30 bux a yr.....NEVER, Within time 9 million ppl on a few servers thats what i see happening in time or chapter 7 in the worse case

If Dan actually manages to get this to reality before August (my renewal month) I might just rethink my cancellation. If he managed to actually get me a local phone number, it would definitely be a done deal.
As of now, my Magic Jack is collecting dust in a drawer since it became such a pain in the ass with the ever-changing password games.

Well out of curiousity I contacted MJ support to ask about this. Wow was that 45 minutes of my life I will never get back. They had no clue what I was talking about. They kept directing me towards magictalk and not really getting what I was looking for.
I sent them articles describing this device and how it was recently unveiled and that it due to be released soon. All I managed to get our of them is that MJ needs a OS and computer to run. There is no such capability to run it without now or to plug it directly into a router. It was getting kinda comical and silly so I had to leave the chat. Oh well just have to wait and see.

Is there any chance I could get a prerelease version of magic Jack plus? I’ve had the magic Jack for over a year and it has never worked right for more than a few minutes at a time. If this magic Jack plus works well, it might be the answer to my magic jack problems and might help restore some of magic jacks reputation.
Some of the support staff may fear magic Jack plus, because if it works well it might make many people in support; obsolete/surplus. Management may not be communicating these changes, to prevent hysteria amongst the staff.rrcole wrote:Well out of curiousity I contacted MJ support to ask about this. Why would they inform support staff about a product that hasn't hit the market yet? There won't be hysteria, there will be jubilation, if and when they get the product out, since it's probably safe to assume Dan will use the same support staff with a new and improved 10% bunch.PoorMan wrote: Some of the support staff may fear magic Jack plus, because if it works well it might make many people in support; obsolete/surplus. What would really set this product apart from other voip systems is if it could properly FAX.
The original MJ barely handles text faxes. Don't bother with photos.
If the MJP could do all they say and handle all fax it would give MJ a huge lead to the pack.
Nettalk says they can handle faxes, but since I don't have them I don't know. Anyone here with Nettalk know if their system can in fact do at least text and black and white photos with some kind of quality?

Looks like the femtojack is indeed dead. The smartphone apps along with the legal hassles were apparently just too much.

Until it is released asking questions about it is like, ummm, asking if BigFoot prefers Pepsi or Coke until we can ask him personally after he has been captured.Freedom1911 wrote:So are there any know pictures of this creature?
Or has it just been a heard of thing like BigFoot or Nessie.
The other question is when these are finally released, will you be able to port your current MJ number and time over to it?

But seriously. Has there been a picture released. They say the MJP was exhibited at the CES this year. I was hoping someone knew if there were pictures of it from there.
And I asked about the number porting because in one of the articles I read it said number porting would be possible. But I think you can do that with the current version of MJ.
I was wondering if anyone knew if the porting would extend to current MJ models and if the time you had already paid for (ie I have almost 5 years left on my MJ) would also port over to the new MJP.
Did not mean to sound like a smart ars in that other post. But it is aggravating at times when you hear about the new things that are coming down the pike, but you dont hear any real definitive info.
It would almost be better if MJ said nothing about a new product until it was ready to ship, then flood the blogs/forums/advertisers with a full and detailed press release.

You didn't sound like that big a smart-ass, but I was being serious. MagicJack has a bad habit of announcing products and then not following through...look above for the femtojack discussion. Unfortunately there is no way to know what they will eventually do, what they will eventually offer in the way of services, and making even a basic decision on something they have announced, is foolhardy at best. Ask users burned on the number porting beta.Freedom1911 wrote: But seriously.

Here is the only picture of it I have found so far, but as you can see they put some tape on the clear plastic to hide the guts. Looks to be just a little bigger than the magicJack dongle.

If MJ does come out with MJP anytime soon it would surprise me. Nettalk is already on their 2nd generation device and the service is getting better every month. MJ may have missed their chance to retain many subscribers as those who have tried MJ and could not get it to work may not give MJ another chance. Others may simply see another cheaply made product and not want to give it a go. I enjoy tinkering with things but most likely I will not spend the money on a MJP when there are other providers that are solid and give much better customer service for only a few dollars more a year.

That's for people who had their MJ setup without a PC via an ATA ( do a search on that). After the last MJ update, MJ started changing or rotating their SIP password rendering their MJ with ATA useless..goitalone wrote:Ever-changing password games?nostrodamus wrote:As of now, my Magic Jack is collecting dust in a drawer since it became such a pain in the ass with the ever-changing password games.
What do you mean by that exactly?

Thanks for the picture. I have looked and all I find is a crappy cgi picture.Kif Kroker wrote:Here is the only picture of it I have found so far, but as you can see they put some tape on the clear plastic to hide the guts. Looks to be just a little bigger than the magicJack dongle.

This is a valid point. Some one at MJ needs to wake up. People don't want to pay their money out for something that does not work and that they get no customer service for when it doesn't.sabresfan wrote:If MJ does come out with MJP anytime soon it would surprise me. Have not tried NetTalk. For 10.00 more a year they are still very reasonably priced. Same as NetTalk, now we need to see if their quality and service are the same as what is reported for NetTalk.
NetTalk is very new still, I am going to wait and see how they develop and see if their customer service continues to be better than average.
I guess I have been lucky. My MJ works well most all the time. And I have 4.5 years left on this run. For as little as I use my home phone it works perfectly and saves me over 100.00 a month.

Too Little - Too Late
If in fact magicJack comes out with their own version of the netTalk Duo, it will be too little - too late for the countless thousands of customers like me who found the MJ product and MJ customer service to be a bad joke and switched to netTalk. Simply, the netTalk device just plain works. Simply, if you ever have the occasion to deal with netTalk customer service, you can talk on the phone with a courteous and well trained individual.
MJ is primarily concerned with funding infomercials and getting 200,000 new customers to sign up each month. netTalk is focused on providing a quality product and taking care of their customers.
When netTalk was gaining on MJ, Dan called it a POS. Clearly he knew then the netTalk was a better product as MJ is now trying to clone that POS. And if my experience is any indicator, the MJ clone will be a POS compared to the Duo.
Sorry if I have offended the MJ fans out there. I'm a retired geek who spent months trying every conceivable solution to get my MJ to work reliably. I finally gave up, went with the Duo, had it up and running in minutes and not so much as a hiccup in four months (Linksys WRT54GL router).

Re: Too Little - Too Late
Us "fans" only care about whether or not our device works and we are fans because it has for us. Sorry about the rest of you. And the ONE thing that MJ haters forget is that MJ has HUGE market penetration. 6 or 7 million units sold. Even if half hate it, it gives it a HUGE name recognition that will take NetTalk years to get, if ever. That name recognition alone will sell a TON of their new units.MattressTester wrote:If in fact magicJack comes out with their own version of the netTalk Duo, it will be too little - too late for the countless thousands of customers like me who found the MJ product and MJ customer service to be a bad joke and switched to netTalk. I was not aware of how many people were unhappy with MJ until after I bought the product. The latest tally shows this forum has had 32,000 registered users. Lets assume that ALL are unhappy users (I know a few who aren't), and lets assume that 20 times that number are unhappy buyers. Thats 640,000 unhappy buyers, but leaves room for a bunch of happy ones.
Will his new device be a piece of crap? Maybe. Will he sell a ton of them too? Probably. Do a Google search and you will find people predicting the death of the company years ago. I'm not exactly happy with the way he runs the company, specifically customer service, but I refuse to under-estimate Dan like so many others are.
I'm a retired non-geek, and have only had to do some minor tweaking to keep my MJ running great for more than a year. And most of that was getting it to do things it was never intended and/or advertised for, like ringing on all my phones. So I'm not sure how a self-professed "geek" can't get the damn thing to work. Maybe bitstopjoe and I should write a "MagicJack for Dummies" book.
I was paying more that $40 a month after taxes and fees for my land-line and am tickled pink. 14 months at $40 per month is $560. I have spent $80 on 2 different devices and $10 on a powered hub, so I have saved $470 in a little over a year. I could be happier with it, but I'm not sure how much, and I have a "tiny" feeling there are a lot others in that same boat. Enjoy your NetTalk.

I earn enough to live comfortably, but am always on the lookout for deals that can save me money.
MJ *has* saved me a bunch and although a few have died on me, I was able to order replacements from support.
I do not renew MJ subscriptions as the MJ hardware has failed on me often and ordering the replacements + renew subscription amounts to more than $40 everytime.
Even then I save well over $400 a year thanks to MJ.
For some reason I cannot justify the extra $30 for the NTDuo - don't think I burn that much of juice running my 65W laptop 14 hours a day.
