Google's Voice calling application is adding a long-promised feature: the ability to move a phone number from a cell phone or landline to Google's service.
Now we don't need MJ to port. Just transfer your current number to GV and then tell GV to forward to your MJ number!
Number Porting Now Available on Google Voice!

Sorry guys - the AP story was incorrect. You can only port MOBILE numbers.

Re: Google Voice update
T-Mobile may work different, but my pre-paid TracFone deducted a minute off my time every time I had a call forwarded, so I stopped doing that pretty quick. I was doing it because I couldn't get my area code from MJ and thought I would be clever and just have people call my cell and forward it. Granted they only took a minute off my time, but it defeated the purpose, so a few got stuck using long distance to call me. The bitch of it, if anyone gives a crap, is that GV didn't have the area code available either, until a few weeks ago.crackerjack wrote:So port it to a Tmobile prepaid and then to GVdleeret wrote:Sorry guys - the AP story was incorrect. Re: Google Voice update
What he was talking about was to actually port the number you want to keep from landline to cell. Then port the number from cell to GV. No forwarding involved.nailgunner wrote:T-Mobile may work different, but my pre-paid TracFone deducted a minute off my time every time I had a call forwarded, so I stopped doing that pretty quick.
