Error 3 -- Magic Support was no help at all

Post by JSKoehler »

I have two Magicjack devices. Both are used on PCs with Windows Vista. One works fine, the other worked fine until about two weeks ago, now it consistently gets the 'Error 3' message. I followed the usual procedure of going to the website for an update, making the changes to my firewall settings, etc., then tried three times with live "support." Each time, they required me to do inane things (check the date and calendar -- several times, run the update, etc.) and eventually they just stopped responding.

I''ve attached the computer with the problem MJ to the same router as the device that works and it will work with that connection (unfortunately, this is not a viable solution, since the computer must normally be in a different loction and there is only one router connection at that location).

The only difference is that two computers connect to the Internet by different servers and routers -- so it must be a probelm with the server or router. Support did indicate that I needed to open ports on the router, but the site they sent me to did not list my router (dLink DB1105). A search of the net also reveal nothing of use with regard to opening ports.

Any suggestions for determinign what the problem is and what, if anything, can be done?

Thanks.
