netTalk Duo - USB Connect - AVG Internet Security

Post by DrPacman »

Good day,

For those of use that are using our netTalk Dou’s via USB on computers or laptop connections I have a couple of questions that need solving.

Basically I am having issues connecting with the provisioning servers when my firewall (AVG Internet Security 2011) is enabled.

I have already set exceptions including allowing UDP ports 20,21,69,5060 and 10000-20000 for all the executable files in the netTalk folder rebooted a number of times, and the system still won’t connect with the servers, and give me the one ring back tone.

If shut off the firewall, and run windows firewall, I have no problem connecting. So I know that it not on the WiFi router end.

So I guess the question I have is; have I missed any of the files that need to be added to the exclusions? And if so what might they be? Or anything else that I can try that anyone can think of?

You might be better off going to the NetTalk forum with technical questions.

There are a good number of users of both, so here might work.

That indeed is very true, as I am for one... There however seems to be more traffic on these forums than the netTalk forums… I will find an answer to the problem, and hopefully help both forums…

Is there a specific reason you need to use AVG? If not I would recommend using windows firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials (free).

Not really any reason that I couldn't change, only reason I’m even trying to fix this is, that AVG cost me about $60.00 CDN for the year of service and support, and it's the point of not wanting to waste the cash… But it’s now at the point that I’m ready for a change.
