Questions about 9450Xe Thin client - Still Troubleshooting

Post by lee_leses »

I was reading the sticky about running Magicjack on a 9450Xe thin client.

I just brought a Belkin powered USB hub today, and that's when I noticed the 9450 apparently has USB 1.1 ports.

Intuitively, it seems to me that especially since this 9450 is dedicated to running only the Magicjack, that USB 1.1 should not be a problem.

But I wanted to ask, does anyone know if not running 2.0 USB ports could lead to voice quality issues?

I wanted to elliminate not having enough USB power as a possible cause. If that does not work next I will look into using a different proxy server.

Again, I get fluctuations where sometimes it's crystal clear and other times the person on the other end can't understand you. In general, on my end, I can hear well the majority of the time.

I already tried plugging the cable modem directly into the thin client without the router being used at all, but this does not seem to be the source of the problem.

Any thoughts appreciated!!!

My Thin Client also has 1.1 usb ports. I was having trouble since Mj most recent update with it turning off and voice quality issues. I started using a 2.0 powered hub and it made a huge difference in voice quality and overall performance.

Its the powered part of the hub that helped, not the 2.0 bit.
Simply because connecting a USB 2.0 hub to a 1.1 port will be throttled down to the limitations of the port it is connected to (ie, a USB 1.1 port). The fact that it is POWERED, however, has been documented to help MJ do its thing- they even recommend this for desktops/laptops in the troubleshooting FAQ if I recall.

Thank you, that is all helpful. I would still like to hear from some more folks that they are using USB 1.1 on the thin client with the powered 2.0 hubs and that the issues are not because of the 1.1 speed limits.

Anyone have some more thoughts?

At least I am elliminating the the problems are due to lack of power...
