Static-y or Electronic-ish Sound Quality

Post by Anjalena »

I just put in a new motherboard and cpu, and now the sound on my MagicJack is fried.

I use my physical phone but I'm pretty sure it's not the phone since I can still Intercom to the other handset and talk to my son fine. But any actual calls I make, the inbound sound has a staticy or electronic sound. At least this morning I can mostly understand what people are saying to me on the phone. Yesterday it was so electronicy that I couldn't understand anyone.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the change in Mobo and cpu at all. I just mention it cuz it is the biggest and most recent change. Also, I can't use the soft phone with a mic to test sound cuz my mic doesn't pick up sound very well for some reason. Can't figure out how to fix that. But I don't usually use it for calling anyway.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Nobody has any insight about this? It might not have anything to do with the new motherboard and cpu. I just added that info in case it did. I'm not sure how else to find out what's wrong with my sound quality. You guys are my only hope.

I don't think it's fried, have you got all the sound drivers installed for the new mom board? Have you checked your conrtol pannel and check all the sounds under it.

Also look at your system devices "sound drivers" and make sure they are all working and or updated.

After all is checked "sound" and updated and still not good, uninstall MJ and reinstall it and see it's better, but do this step last..

Thanks, John. I'll check into all of this and get back to you. I did install the motherboard drivers that came with the mobo, but I haven't looked online for updated drivers yet. I'm already having problems with my mic not picking up sound very well and can't seem to fix it no matter what I've tried. I mention that cuz it's yet another "sound" problem.

Anyway, thank you. I'll let you know how it goes when I get a chance to go through this stuff. =)

Clicking, lags, garbled calls, etc.

Post by daniel devereaux »

Multiple times I have experienced this, and every time, MJ's tech support had me open ports 5060 and 5070 for UDP traffic (on both my windows firewall and home router). On my home router - I had to specify my computer's IP v4 address when forwarding the 5060 and 5070 ports, and all my problems disappeared. I successfully and consistently send and receive faxes as well as have crystal-clear voice calls.
Is it me? I think it is, or is that just you?

i had this problem for week now. It's not your hardware. I couldn't use my MJ at all so i thought i do call forwarding to my cell. Unplugging all MJ stuff. Guess what still static ? Been chatting with best of "10% Techs" all morning and finally one them took my email and said he will forward this problem to they " Engineers". Let's hope for best.

Yeah, I'm not getting much better even though I installed all the latest drivers. I just ordered a new sound card cuz I'm stuck using the onboard sound right now. Dunno if it'll help with the MJ problem but I sure hope so. My SafeLink phone only has 130'ish minutes left on it. =(

If anyone has any break-throughs or other ideas, please let me know.

Well, I got it fixed! After installing all the up to date drivers for my Mobo, then unplugging the MagicJack, completely uninstalling the MagicJack software, then plugging the MagicJack back in... all is well with the world. =)

Thank you to all those who helped me. It is much appreciated.
