pre fix for area code

Post by zebra1954 »

How do I find out if the pre fix in my area code will be a local call for people calling me when I have a majic jack phone? Thanks Lorraine

It used to be one was able to look that up in the first few pages of your local phone book.
I would have to "assume" there is another way these days to do so. It might be as simple as calling the operator and telling them your new MJ exchange ( when you get it that is, or look on their web pages to see available #'s) and asking her/him if it is local to the people who call you the most. Don't forget MOST people these days have LD included with their phone service ( Cell and Landline)

I KNOW THE PREFIXES ARE IN THE PHONE BOOK

Post by zebra1954 »

I KNOW THE PREFIXES ARE IN THE PHONE BOOK. That will not help me find out about majic jack. I was asking about majic jack phone service. I purchased one a year ago. Only to find out anyone in my local pre fix code would be charged long distance to call me. I canceled the majic jack. Wondering if my prefix was in the majic jack local phone number, yet.

Your question is still a little confusing. If you want to know if an area code and specific prefix you want is now available, you will probably have to get on customer service and ask. They provide a list on their website of available area codes, but don't go into the prefixes. If they can't provide you with available prefixes, lord knows no one else will have the information available.

After I purchased majic jack

Post by zebra1954 »

After I had purchased majic jack I was given a web page to look up the pre fixes for my area code that would be a local call. Trying to find out before I purchased again. Customer service?

Looks like the link that CrackerJack provided would have answered that for you. So I REALLY have no idea what you are looking for now. Good luck.

Edit: And I still think you cannot be as general as looking for what prefixes are local calls in your area code. I think you need to be specific and look for what other prefixes are local calls into/from your prefix. Until you know what prefix you are going to get with a new number, this sounds like an exercise in futility to me.

I added an edit. Am I totally wrong? Wouldn't she need to know her prefix first? If it's a prior MJ number, it probably has changed little if any.

Exactly, as one needs to know their exchange first in order to see what other exchanges are local or not.
Kinda like asking someone on a bus for directions on getting off on your stop ( since you do not know the area) and they tell you to get off the one before they do!!
