Plugging MJ into a different computer

I have searched all over but not found the answer to the following question.. Can I plug my Magic Jack into a different computer and keep my same info? Will it even work??? I have a dinosaur computer that is in the process of dying and I want to keep my same phone #...my year is almost up and I want to sign up for 5 more years and I want to keep my phone #. Thanks for your help.

Yes you can but this is the wrong section for your question, it belongs in the technical section.
Just think twice before signing up for 5 years... You are only saving about 50 cents a month PLUS if MJ goes under or they start blocking a number you call often, you will regret being locked in for 5 years, trust me

Thanks Joe for your info. What would make you think that MJ would go under? As far as getting blocked, I can always use Google voice. I only use MJ because I can hook it up to my cordless phone, set it on 2 rings and my answering machine will pick up rather than having to wait to see if someone leaves a voice message.

What causes any company to go under? Bad business practices, the economy, competition, who knows. Just saying it is not worth losing what you pay for 5 years worth of service for a very small saving per month.

At this point, with their "marriage" to VocalTec I doubt that magicJack will be going under anytime soon, but one never knows. The MJ+ could be a bomb or someone could come along with a better widget (can you spell Google Voice) and make them redundant. Its happened to better companies. The only reason to pay for multiple years is if you think they will raise their prices. But I've been a MJ customer for about 3 years and the price has not changed in all that time.

I see what you're saying, but I don't agree with your logic.

I think people prepay for 5 years mostly because they get a discount, not because they're necessarily worried about a price increase.

Additionally, the cost of the 5 year discounted package has increased by $10.00 within the last 2 years.

Well, at least in my case I was more concerned that the yearly price would go up - a lot since $19 seemed way too cheap to be sustained. I got a discount too, but I was concerned that the service might go bad or the company might disappear. But I also realized that even paying for 5 years was less than my usual LD bill w/Verizon so what the heck!

I see your point. It will be interesting to finally get the official details on the cost of MJ+ subscriptions.
