Blue light occasionally goes out and there is no dial tone.
I have my MJ connected to a laptop that is used only for the MJ. Occasionally I will discover that the blue light has gone out and even though the MJ window is still open, there is no line - no dial tone. I am also using MagicFeatures.
MJ is connected to a powered USB port. Power management to USB hub is set to NOT allow the computer to turn off power to the hub. MJ and MagicFeatures are both set to high priority. Both are set as exceptions in Firewall and Virus software. I don't think this is due to the USB connection getting jiggled loose because I sometimes find it this way in the morning when nothing has touched the computer all night.
Any suggestions would be welcome!

There was a huge issue after a software upgrade quite a while ago that caused all kinds of conflicts with the Windows screen saver settings. The general advice at that time was to set all the settings to not allow a power down. They fixed it, and other than the screen saver, I left the power settings as is. It's possible that with the fix that MJ overrides the power settings, I don't remember reading it though.
That said, I still doubt it's the solution or it should be happening to you all the time. It certainly won't hurt to play with it. Good luck.

At some point I adjusted all the power settings to not allow sleeping or hibernation per recommendations and have left then as is. Don't remember exactly what the issue was at the time. I thought it was the screen saver, but looking back at the postings, the screen saver issue might have been something separate that the MJ update prevented it from kicking in.bbooks wrote:Nailgunner, do you mean to say that you turned off your screensaver?
So far no problems since I adjusted the power settings to disallow hibernation. I'm using XP, by the way.
I will keep an eye on things and report back if the problem pops up again.
Regardless, glad it's working. So far.
Unfortunately, it just happened again yesterday. Right after making a call, MJ shut off. That is, the blue light was out but the software was still running. I had to unplug the MJ and restart the computer and MJ software to get it up and running again. I thought I had this licked by manually adjusting all the power settings to avoid hibernation and stand-by. I also removed MagicFeatures because I discovered that I didn't have the minimum requirements needed on my computer to prevent problems (found this info in MagicFeatures support forum).
I have my MJ connected to an old laptop running XP with 498 mHz CPU and 256 MB RAM. This laptop is dedicated to the MJ and the only other thing running on it is anti-virus software (and MJ is set as an exception with the anti-virus). MJ is plugged into a externally powered USB port. The laptop connects to the Internet via a Netgear 54 MBPS wireless card. When the MJ blue light goes out, there is no indication that I have lost my Internet connection.
Any suggestions are most welcome!

I am having the same problem, which started a couple days ago.
MJ worked fine for months, but then stopped.
When I plug the adapter directly into a USB port (and I've tried this on 3 different computers), the soft client installs and displays, but the adapter itself does not light up--no blue light. And there is no dial tone on the phone.
I tried plugging in MJ to a Win XP computer as well as a Win 7 computer. Same result.
I reran the 'upgrade' software. I checked my firewall and nothing is being blocked. No changes on my network.
Someone must have experienced this and solved it!?? Please help.

Okay, I tried something posted here back in 2008 and it worked to bring back the blue light and restore my MJ.
I downloaded this program:
MagicJack Recovery Program
http://www.magicjack.com/site/downloads ... _setup.exe
Ran it and it worked! Blue light back on, phone gets dial tone and service is restored. I saved the .exe file in case I need to ever run it again.
