Static IP issues ??

Hi, I just recently set up my computer to a static IP and now my MJ isn't working. is there a

workaround for this ? or can this not be done? Thanks

I just spent 2Hrs.with tech support and they really could not tell me if it can or can't be done. We tried everything in the book. I'm getting an error code 3. Thanks

Use of a static IP with MJ is definately doable. Do you have internet access at the machine with the static IP?

Yes I do, I just don't know how to proceed? And Thanks for your reply. Router is set up as DHCP computer set up as static. Thanks

Have you checked any firewall setting on the machine that coud possible be blocking MJ?

I have Microsoft essentials and I don't have it blocking magic jack. the soft pat shows my number and 911 location but just won't connect.error code 3. I need a step by step to point MJ to my static IP on the computer end I believe. Thanks for your reply.

All of my home computers have a fixed IP address.
Allows quick remote control of them via VNC.
Can you go back to the settings and make it work with
get address automatically?
If so, then look at your connection status, get the proper
gateway address and make sure it is correct once you reset
to your chosen fixed address.

What exactly are your issues? Does MJ start and give you dialpad?
Static IP is a red herring, will not affect your MJ. must be something else.

Microsof Essetials is not a firewall. Look to your Computer's Control Panel for Windows Firewall and temporarilly disable it.
Restart your computer and wait for MJ to load. You may receive a 'Luck you' upgrade.
If MJ starts working again, re-enstate your Windows Firewall. While you're there, look to the Exceptions tab to make sure that there is a check mark next to Magic Jack so as to make it an expeption to the firewall.
Preferably, plug the MJ dongle into a rear USB port and DO NOT use the short extension cable provided by MJ.

Please tell us a bit more about this static ip issue.
Are you trying to set your computer to a static address??
Or have you been assigned a static ip from your network provider.
I can't determine how to help from what little you write about
your problem.
Usually you only need to set address, group, gateway and dns
server preference.

Also please click on the little computers in your task bar and tell us what you get when you look at status there
Says I'm connected it shows the server IP.

MJ dialpad shows up contacts are there My phone number is there the splash screen on the left is there ,My 911 adress is there .
It just says signing in and the it gives me an error code 3.

1. What are you running for an OS XP/Vista?Win7??
2. When you click on the two computers look under local area connection status, click support, and give me the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway numbers that are displayed.
3. Are you running a cable modem or DSL?? {Are U in the US???}
Make SURE that you have enabled magicjack in your control panel
select security, then firewall, then advanced, then exceptions. MJ
should have a checkmark.

So four questions really

First off thank you for your reply.

1. I am using XP-Pro
2.123.108.108.138 sub net mask : 255.0.0.0 Gateway :192.168.1.1
3. cable modem USA
In the exceptions tab I have three magic jack entries and all three are checked.

OK. Change your address to 192.168.1.10 well say. if that's what you
like. Or between .2 and .100 if you like something else. Change your
subnet to 255.255.255.0 keep your gateway at 192.168.1.1 and change your DNS server first choice to 192.168.1.1
Always keep a list of the fixed addresses you use so that you don't
get 2 devices using the same address, that can cause a problem.
That should work, unless your cable modem needs 192.168.1.254 for
DNS server and gateway such as mine does then you will need to try
those addresses.
Post back if it works for you.
