MJ+ and SIP Credentials

Since the new Magic Jack Plus is a stand-a-lone device, would you be able to pull the SIP Credentials and use on say another ATA? If that is the case, does it mean that it does not use a rotating password like the USB/PC version. I would love to use the Old Device SIP information on SP2 of my OBi110 for e911 only.

Essentially, does the OLD MJ still employing rotating password?

I think the rotating password was just a mistakenly parameter set server side. The real change in the authentication process. Meaning the formula that is used in MJMD5 or other proxies needs to be figured out. No one is working on this currently I hope that this helps you understand.

1) To have additional features such as two-stage dialing, callback, call recording etc.

2) So they can have service from more than one voip provider handled by the same device.

3) Some folks do not have any more faith in the new + than they did in the old one.

The bottom line is there are lots of reasons why someone may want to use another ATA rather than the MJ+ (which is an ATA of sorts); where the service is locked.

The only thing that MJ+ does is catchup with where NetTalk has been for quite some time. So functionally the NetTalk Duo and the "New MJ+" are the same; so nothing "New" here.

There is a big difference between the NetTalk and MJ in terms of customer service and warranty.

One only needs to Google here to see the idiotic scripted customer chats (in the case of MJ since I don't know of any tech support number for them). If after hours of hassle MJ agrees to send you a replacement they reportedly charge you $10 for shipping and handling.

With NetTalk you can chat or phone tech support where you talk with a real knowledgeable human, who understands English. If it turns out there is some problem with your device then they send you a new one free and they pay for shipping both ways.

Between the MJ+ and NetTalk Duo I prefer NetTalk.

Lord knows I'm going to regret this, but....

Unlike other VOIP forums, the admins of this forum let us post virtually anything we want. They are even gracious enough to offer sections to rant about MJ, and to offer other solutions to MJ.

But that doesn't seem to be good enough for some. It continues to amaze me that a few don't seem to have the common courtesy, or the ability, or neither, to limit their commentary postings about other products to where the the forum has set it up for them to do so.

Because if your trying again to be a "hall monitor" then you have elevated your own worth.

No, I just wondered how NetTalk got into the discussion since it has NOTHING to do with the thread. I will mark you down as not having the common courtesy or the ability.

Edit: Maybe we can get the admin to set up a special section for you and Pablo123 and you can 2 can post back and forth to each other about the other systems.

Well since I guess you can;'t read. The NetTalk part was in direct response to the part:

So I pointed out that you have been able to use a locked device like the MJ+ (NetTalk) for some time. Therefore the MJ+ doesn't change that ability; assuming the MJ+ and NetTalk are equal.

However I went further to point out that NetTalk and MJ+ are not equal if you consider the customer support/warranty aspects.

I understand your a one horse blowhard who can't stand anyone pointing out facts that you don't like; but that won't change the facts.

As someone pointed out. in the future if you just feel like trying to censor my comments then why not use PM instead of hijacking a thread to whine.

EDIT: Maybe we can get the admin to set up a filter so we don;t have to read your whinny complaints.

I can read. Apparently you still haven't taken that class on comprehension. NetTalk has nothing to do with hooking up MJ+ to the net.

I have requested that the admin add the ability to ignore members a few months ago. He said he didn't know if that feature was available but would enable it if it was. I know with phpbb3 you can add someone to your foes list and they are ignored, and there a few hacks/mods for ignoring members as well. With the admin's mostly "hands-off" approach to this forum it really would be a nice feature to have. I know I would use it.

Thanks!! With MJ+, does it employ similar authentication process? I have no intention of buying the MJ+, but already has the older PC based unit and would like to enter the credentials on my OBi110 for SP2. If not, I will abandon MY MJ forever. Free Google Voice calling on OBi110 is much better feature-wise than MJ and it is totally free!!

While I do not have a mJ+ and have not seen any info from anyone who has one and has investigated the authentication process, I would suspect it's authentication is similar to mJ and would require figuring out how to overcome it. For me, it hasn't been worth the time for me to try to figure out their current authentication method, especially when they could just change or add something to the authentication process again once the current system is cracked thus causing your ATA to stop working again. Not enough benefit for the effort imho.

I have a OBi110 myself and my original mJ is plugged into the line port of it. I'm not sure if I will be renewing my mJ when it comes due next month, the problems with many exchanges being blocked is causing me to think I probably will not renew. I've had mine for 3 years now, but there really are better options out there today.
