3rd Party Software To Reprogram MagicJack Plus?

Post by Altair IV »

I just received my MagicJack Plus today. It works fine but I miss all the bells and whistles the phone company offered. I do not miss the phone company price!!

Has anyone tried any of the 3rd party software programs on MagicJack Plus? I’m looking for all the bells and whistles like the phone companies offers, especially Outbound Caller ID Blocking & Call forwarding.

One example is listed  http://www.shareit.com/product.html?pro ... 8205#legal

Your link is for the wonderful MagicFeatures plugin. Per their website, it will not work with the new Plus:

http://www.pcphonesoft.com/pcphonesoft/ ... PIC_ID=993

The stated reason for it not working with the Plus, that the Plus isn't "computer software based", would probably be the same issue with other 3rd party products that work on the regular MJ.

Upgrade To MJ Plus 2.0.11 Software?

Post by Altair IV »

NailGunner, I saw that post on PCPhoneSoft Support Forum yesterday. I put the link on my topic as an example of the software I am looking for to reprogram MagicJack Plus. True it will not work on MJ Plus but maybe there is another program out there that will enhance or replace the current MagicJack 2.0.11 software?

A MagicJack Chat REP told me they are working on adding new features to MagicJack Plus but as we are both aware it can take MagicJack VocalTec FOREVER to come out with new products!!

I think you missed the main point. Since the Plus is not "computer software based", I think by definition any other software that worked with the regular MJ won't work with the Plus.

Whether they would have to redesign their software to work with the Plus, or write a whole new program is way beyond my knowledge. But regardless it doesn't sound like it would be an easy task since the MagicFeatures guy isn't even going to try.

In any event, since the Plus is so new, I would think it would be some time before any 3rd party product, if any, would be available. Or waiting on MJ updates, good luck with that.

As a side note, I re-read your initial post, you can call forward with the current MJ software via your "mymagicjack" page.

I Think You Missed The Main Point

NailGunner, I agree with you that computer based software will not work with the NEW MagicJack Plus as a standalone unit plugged into a router.

I Think You Missed My Main Point? As of May 2009 Over 3.5 Million Original MagicJacks have been sold. With that in mind you would think someone would be working on 3rd party software to reprogram the chip inside MagicJack Plus?

Let’s say someone developed a way to update MagicJack Plus to offer all the features the phone company offers and they only charged $1.00 for the upgrade. With Over 3.5 Million Original MagicJacks Sold and I’m sure MagicJack Plus will top that, at the ridiculously low price for $1.00 per download times millions, well you do the math!

Good, now it's clear we have gone from "Has anyone tried any of the 3rd party software programs on MagicJack Plus?" to the above.

"Whith" that in mind, I'm sure people will be looking at all kinds of stuff to sell to MJPlus users. But surely that is quite far away and of NO use to you, your original question, or your subsequent question, now.

What pissing match on sematics? I understood your original question perfectly:

Has anyone tried any of the 3rd party software programs on MagicJack Plus?

You didn't like the answer. No, and it doesn't appear as if it can be done with existing software per MagicFeatures.

And for the record I put the quotes around whith because that was the way you spelled it in the prior post. Probably an unnecessary cheap-shot, but also apparently over your head.

He edited it to correct the spelling of with... I saw that little dig and knew exactly what you meant by putting it in quotes. NEXT TIME type it slower so "some" people might get the dig :)

Well, I got to thinking that I need to rethink my idea of rereading the posts. I figure I shouldn't be harassing ANYONE who agrees with me in here. So I have officially rethunk what I was going to rethink.

I missed his editing part. It's a darn shame that the time and number of edits are shown after the post, if done after someone posts after you.

The funny thing was him harassing me on his misspelling. I was a "tad" out of line in doing it, since we all misspell. But I still don't know how a straight-forward answer to a straight-forward question turned into an argument. Oh well.
