Outgoing calls are terrible!

Post by newfers »

Hi folks,

My MagicJack seems to make terrible outgoing calls, and it seems to be much worse lately than ever. I am beyond frustrated! I've set the Magicjack process to high, I have opened ports 5060 and 5070 in my router (I changed from a dynamicIP to a staticIP first, to simplify), I have changed USB ports, all to no avail. I had recently installed the MagicSilence and MagicFeatures extensions, and thought maybe they might be making things worse, so I uninstalled them as well, but still, my outgoing calls sound choppy and unbearable to people I call. I've called my wife in the other room via cellphone, to check, and it's still terrible. MagicJack support has been unhelpful, to say the least.

Incoming calls seem much better, so I'm curious as to what the issue might be... does anyone have any wisdom to impart? I'm about to toss this MagicJack out the window!

Thanks!

If incoming calls are acceptable and outgoing calls are choppy there is a reasonable possibility the MJ server that is serving you is overloaded (either the Internet pipe to it does not have enough bandwidth or the server CPU itself cannot keep up).

There are other threads on this forum that should help you figure out how to force your MJ over to use a different server on the MJ network. Outside of this you can also see if checking the "Aircard" option on the top left hand corner of the MJ dialer improves your situation as this setting forces the use of a codec that uses much less bandwidth.

You are probably already doing this but for the purposes of troubleshooting make sure you are using a wired connection from your computer to your router. That will immediately remove any possible WiFi related issues from the troubleshooting equation.
