After a post on another forum, I did some checking and it appears that new magicTalk subscriptions are not available for PC's anymore.

And maybe not. After playing around I was able to get my old MagicTalk number working again (after more than 1/2 year of being inactive). Here is the detail I posted in the other forum:

"I give up trying to figure out what is going on at MJ, after being told I had no options this morning. I unplugged my device, and up popped the app screen. It eventually gave me the option for registering. So I clicked on it, was sent to an order page with a zero charge. Clicked on it and was given a receipt. The page closed and the softphone opens with a MagicJack app beta screen on the left and my old MagicTalk number on the top, which I then used to call my cell. I opened up the "my subscriptions" tab and it's all back active again.

I did notice that the name "MagicTalk" doesn't appear anywhere, so I don't know if that is why customer service said there was no option for MagicTalk, or what is going on, or how long it will stay active, since there is no expiration date showing in my account for that number."

Well "F" me for not leaving well enough alone. I had to go and start up my magicTalk service again. And of course now, I can't cancel, deactivate or turn it OFF. Why would I want to since they let me reactivate it for a full year, at no cost, and I can both make and receive calls with it? I'm glad you asked.

Twice in the last 2 days I've had 2 different people call me on my regular magicJACK number. They were greeted with a recording that I was not able to receive long-distance calls and to please call 305-848-8255 to complete the call. Which is the freaking magicTALK access number. The first one last night actually called the number and was eventually connected with my magicJACK number and told me the tale of what happened. I had a few test calls placed to me today with no issues. But then it happened again tonight and was notified by text that they couldn't get through. Naturally, I was able to call them right back.

Customer support tells me, however, that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the magicJack and magicTalk numbers to interact in such a way. Of course they had NO explanation of how the person last night knew about the 305 magicTalk access number, and was able to use it to call me on my regular magicJack number. And of course I left chat feeling assured that even though they had no idea what WAS happening, since it couldn't BE happening, that engineering was working on it and would send me an email when it was resolved. Aaaaarrrrrgggg.

And my GoogleVoice and MJ has been F'd up for at least a few days. I just renewed my MJ for a year last week, but I think I heard a rumor that NetTalk was available at WalMart. My loyalty to MJ was always money related, but it won't survive this kind of crap either for more than a week or so.

A minor update. Gone from bad to worse I guess. Instead of being told to call the magicTalk access number, they are now being told "it's a non-working number". It seems to only happen on cell calls, and may be isolated to one carrier, or region of the country, or time of day, not sure. Sigh.

I did not have a current subscription. I had not used mine after the free trial period at the end of 2010 and it was shown as deactivated under my subscriptions. I do not have a Iphone, Ipad or Ipod. Per the above posts, they recently allowed me to reactivate it, now much to my dismay, and it is now showing 10-24-2012 as my expiration date. And I can now make and receive calls using the magicTalk system without having paid a cent, just like the trial period in 2010.

The fine people at customer service don't seem to think there is a connection. But when a caller into my regular MJ is given a recording that I don't have long distance service and to call the Talk access number to call me, and after a few steps they were connected to my Jack number when they called it, it's pretty easy to come to a 2+2=4 conclusion that re-activating my Talk has screwed something up. Note that this person not only didn't have the Talk access number prior to this, they didn't have my Talk number since I have only used it for playing around purposes. That will teach me. And while I'm not sure it's connected, this is the same time my GoogleVoice blew up, and I still can't verify my Jack number.

To further bore you all I played with it some more this morning using my cell. When I called the Talk number with my Jack device plugged it, I was asked for the "Magic", not magicTalk just magic, number I was calling. After entering it, I was suddenly in the AT&T phone-card system being asked for a pin#. I unplugged the Jack, called and this time Talk rang my computer. I then used the Talk softphone to call my cell and it rang fine. I plugged the Jack device back in, had to wait for a download, and called the Talk again from my cell. This time no AT&T. But despite customer service insisting that there is no cross-over between the Talk and Jack systems, I was told that the magicJACK customer was not available and to leave a message. And of course the message I left went to my Jack voicemail.
