Problem registering MJ plus

Post by ennemm »

Before plugging-in a new MJ Plus to my desktop I have tried the old MJ on my netbook....no problem....it works and the contacts are all there...

So I attached the new MJ Plus to the desktop, attempted to register (with the same email address as the old MJ) and got as far as selecting the NEW area code and the first few numbers of a NEW phone number, but never came to a request for a password when the screen disappeared.

I thought I would get an email with the complete phone number and perhaps a temporary password but nothing, nada, zilch...

My old account is still valid and nothing has changed there but I see no additional NEW number on that account.

Now when I plug-in the new MJ Plus it tells me the device is already registered but I haven't got a clue what the NEW number is, and when I enter my email address and the password of the old MJ I only see the old (but still valid) phone number.

Any idea if the MJ Plus can be reset so I can to start registering from scratch? Or any other suggestions?

Thanks

Your phone number should appear at the top of the softpad on your computer screen when the MJ+ is connected via the USB port.

If it appears as all zeros, it didn't register properly.

You will probably need to contact customer support to get it straightened out. They may have registered it under the same account as your regular MJ with the same phone number. Double check to see if you have more than one device on your "mymagicjack" page.

On-topic article in the Chicago Tribune...

"The equipment arrived within days, but immediately Arquilla could tell there was a problem.

Although the flier said she did not need a computer, it neglected to spell out what she does need: Internet access.

"They said all you have to do is plug it in. Yeah, right," Arquilla said. "Then you need a modem.""

You are seriously trying to tell this guy that already uses a regular MJ that he needs internet access for his new Plus?

I'm sorry but anyone who does not know they need internet access to use Voice Over INTERNET Protocol is probably to stupid to even use a PC let alone a MJ. They are the type of user who would call Tech Support to say their PC is not working during a power outage. Don't laugh, I took a call like that once...

Just my 2 cents...

Pablo123.....I do have an internet connection.

Matt9876 and nailgunner....you have a point there. When I attach MJ+ to desktop it loads normally, shows ALL zeros on the softpad then takes me immediately to a pop-up window asking for my email address and password. Via this pop-up I can access my account which shows only the old number in area code 646. The new number, had the registration process worked, would have been in area code 305.

Anyway, the old MJ loads normally on the notebook and works normally as well. My subscription is still showing as being good to 2013.....so no change there.

No luck with the MJ+ though. I really only bought this new model so the computer doesn't have to run the whole day just for MJ

It works this way with a regular MJ and a magicTalk account. I think the Plus is handled the same way as well. When you go into "mysubscriptions" on your mymagicjack page, does it have both the regular and Plus MJ on the pull-down above the "select subscription" tab. If it does, and you only show 1 number in the "mynumbers" section, they have your Plus registered under the same number as your regular MJ.

Regardless, I think you are stuck contacting chat support to get it done the way you want. And if they already have it registered with the prior number, they may try to charge you to get a different number now on the Plus.

If it's not already registered, this is one thing chat support usually does well. I would contact them and have them register it for you.

nailgunner, thanks for reply.

I am 99.999% sure I selected area code 305 then, I think, 208 for the first 3 digits of the number. The idea was to have a vastly different area code and number so one number would be for 'home' and the other for 'office' so to speak.

Anyway, mymagicjack page only shows one number.....the old one...and the old MJ device works on either computer but when I plug-in the new MJ+ doesn't show a number at all (neither old nor a new one) except for the Zeros and can't download the contacts either although the pop-tells me the new device is already registered. Odd thing is that in the initial setup of the Plus, I used a different device 'name' to the old one and that new name does show up correctly and when I replace the Plus on either computer with the old MJ then it old number becomes active again and contacts load as normal.

So, my assumption is that a glitch prevented a proper registration of the MJ+ device. Would be nice if there was a way to RESET the MJ+

But does your mymagicjack page show more than one device in the mysubscriptions area? If it does they have it registered. If it doesn't, they don't have it registered.

....and if I disconnect the 'old MJ' , wait a bit, then connect the MJ+, I do get the blurb that the [new name] is already registered....except, as mentioned before, it shows only zeros as my number and takes me immediately a pop-up asking me to enter email address and password.

That's probably a good thing. Unless they set up a whole different account on you, which is always possible.

Someone else may have other ideas, but I don't think you have any other option but to get on chat with them. They should be able to clear it up for you in a matter of minutes. Or at least tell you what options you have.

Thanks. That doesn't sound too discouraging....any specific person? email address?

That's probably a bad thing. Customer service is your only alternative. Once you get your answer, or non-answer, most of us would appreciate a follow-up post regarding what you find out.

No. Go to the main web page and at the bottom right is a link for customer service. You're in for a treat if this is your first time. Just be VERY specific with them about what you want to happen and what has happened. Patience will help you on this endeavor.

Okay...
Embarrassed to admit it but it was not a glitch of any kind. I made a typo in an otherwise valid email address hence never received the confirmation email from MagicJack.

Jose at customer support guided me through the steps to correct the issue. I can only say that in my book, his support qualifies for a 5 / 5 in customer service.

Both new and old numbers work

Glad it's working. Customer service gets some deserved knocks, but they are useful for a few things.
