Magicjack App news on supporting Android
Hey, so i looked around and saw that the Iphone and Ipod and Ipad are supported, only the newer ones. In order for me to really need the app, i would have to get the Verizon version. They want an arm and a leg for that stupid iphone.
Why the hell does magicjack only make the app for apple when more users use android?
I asked magicjack and they dont know anything on release date.

I'm glad to see ppl posting comments about this. Hopefully, this topic will grow enough for magicjack ppl to see. I personally am sick of looking for the app to come out on the android market. I'm with you.....why make apps for iphone first and then the android market. Doesn't make sense. Apparently, Apple has had a better marketing tool. Just my 10 cents.
I am not sure that the issue is the fact that MagicJack does not support running the device on Linux. The Apple IOS is basically based on a flavor of the Mac OS X which is very Linux like- came from FreeBSD.
And the other thing is there actually are more Android phones out there now (since many more carriers support the Smart Phone OS over Apple which was exclusive to AT&T for a number of years). But Apple still seems to lead in Apps (ie the first platform that companies write for).
Hopefully if enough Droid phone users ask, then there will be someone that creates an Android version app.

I remember when Netflix came out with apps for smart phones they did the iphone first and well after an app for Android. One of the reasons given for the delay was different builds of Android for different phones. Each model has to be adapted to several builds. I can say on my phone the Netflix appl does not work correctly while the same appl works well on other models. I imagine the problems are similar for an appl of MJ on Android phones.

See below a conversation I had with Magic Jack rep. I'm about to give up on ever seeing an android app.
Please wait for a site operator to respond.

Venus: Hello, how may I help you?
Bob: Yes, your web page states it will have the magic jack app for the android o.s. soon. It has been quite sometime since that post and still no app. Do you know when the app will be available?
Venus: We do not have the ETA yet for that feature Bob however, you will be informed if we have updates Bob. Our engineers are working on lots of features including that.
Bob: Ok..I am not sure now the definition of soon. Not to sound smart by no means. I have been hearing this since last year. Is it a fact or a statement to keep customers hanging on or in hopes we'll just give up on the app?
Venus: Well, that is a fact Bob. We are really working on it but we could not provide you the exact time frame.
Bob: Is there a phone number I can talk directly to engineering of this project?
Venus: Please wait while I'll ask my direct heads.
Bob: ty
Venus: You are welcome.
Venus: The management just confirmed that we do not have the exact time will it be released to the market Bob.
Venus: They also could not give an exact timeframe.
Bob: OK...ty...I am going to let my buddies know on the forums. Ty and have a great week
Venus: You are welcome, Bob.
Venus: Have a blessed day ahead Bob

The reviews from Itunes users are less than stellar, but it's free - or at least the app is free, so there's not much to complain about. Is there a catch somewhere?

I'm curious from the people on this forum who are using the Itunes app who well it's working for them.

The MagicJack iOS app is SPECTACULAR - particularly when used via a Wi-Fi connection but FORGET about using it via a cellular 3G data connection (the latter is not even recommended by MJ) - 3G is just too slow and inconsistent for useful VOIP (the app is said to work with the faster 4G data service - where such service is reliably available). I use the app on a 3rd generation iPod Touch (via Wi-Fi) and it's UNBELIEVABLE - works at least as well as my router-and-phone-connected MJ+ if not better.
Note that a) both the iOS device's AND the *app's* "Notifications" settings must be turned ON for the device to ring and display a caller's telephone number; b) if when in use you hear an "echo" and/or feedback out of the device's speaker, you must turn down the device's volume a bit; and c) if you have callers' names and numbers stored in the device's and/or the app's contact lists and want those caller's NAMES to be displayed when they call you, the device must NOT have its "screen lock" on AND the MJ app MUST be actively running - otherwise only callers' numbers will be displayed.

Then I look forward to the fabled Android app when it arrives. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 (YP-G70). Thanks for heads up and the review.SteveHC wrote:The MagicJack iOS app is SPECTACULAR - particularly when used via a Wi-Fi connection ...
