MJ and my new Windows 7 desktop

Post by chicagobob »

I just bought a MJ+ and I will be moving my MJ onto a new desktop with Win 7 Premium.

So I plugged the MJ into the new machine, the software downloads and installs, however, when the app fires up, it hangs while it tries to load contacts, and after a few minutes, it tells me to restart my MJ.

If I click the "my" button, it fires up a IE browser, but it hangs too.

If I pull out the MJ, fire up IE and try to browse to any of the MagicJck sites, the browser hangs. This includes www.magicjack.com, my.magicjack.com and upgrades.magicjack.com. All three sites hang.

If I go to my other 2 machines, both running Win 7 ultimate, the browers open up and the MJ works like a charm. All three machines are on the same network.

At one point during this process, the MJ actually worked on the new desktop, I was able to dial my other MJ+ on the same network.

I look forward to a session with tech support tonight.

I am posting this because I have noticed other people rolling back drivers, changing dates and other anti-gremlin activities.

I am curious how this one is going to be resolved. I am hoping that whatever it is, can be added to the list of things to check.

Magic Jack hanging? 000-000-0000?

Post by MagicJackLinux »

Hi Bob. I had a similar thing happen to me when I first got MJ and had XP, now have Win7 but am using Linux at present. When I changed to Win7 I also got a new Router. A small easy to set up Action-Tec. Works great. Only problem was, it was Too good. It wouldn't let MJ calls through. It did the exact thing you mentioned. All 0's showed and no Contacts list came in. This usually means that it's not connecting or is being blocked. I checked the MJ site and found certain routers that were blocking connections and how to "allow" the signals. I experimented with my Security tabs in the firewall. Found you have to allow OUTGOING for Yahoo Messenger to be checked on for Magic Jack to make calls. Until I did that, it only hung and cycled like you mentioned. I didn't want to port forward or any of that mess, so luckily, it had a listing of programs to allow/block in the Firewall security section of Action-tec. Sounds to me like it's being blocked that way, but if all other computers are being allowed through the same Router? I'm not sure why that WIN7 computer would only be effected? Unless it's a "administrator" situation or something. But even with that, I put MJ on my Win 7 computer and I don't remember needing any special "allow as Admin" stuff. Hope this gives some idea on how to proceed. I'm sure others will. Have a good Christmas and Go Blackhawks/Bulls! Bears? Groan...
