Blocking the MagicJack popup menu - what works these days?

Post by babaganoosh »

I set up a friend to use MagicJack. It works great, but when he's on the PC, he gets the menu popping up when a call comes in or when someone in the house makes an outgoing call.

I tried magicBlock and his computer is frozen when he gets on it in the morning. Has to reboot and unplug the MJ to get it to work OK. Then plugs Magic Jack in and things work fine.

I uninstalled MagicBlock and tried MagicJackBlocker, but that crashes when you try to run it.

Anything else work these days?

thanks!

Nothing works these days. By the end of the month, the Magic Silence plugin will hopefully be released.

actually, there's a tool to run MJ as a service available here, but it gets rid of the softphone COMPLETELY, if that's of interest to you ;) , but it is easy to switch back and forth when you do need the softphone.

HA... I would have??? Me???????????? Moi????? Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I have pretty much given up as it seems to be a lost cause. I mean when someone makes a post asking the SAME exact question which is either right before theirs or damn close to it and has 8 pages of posts on that subject?? OR they ask a question which was JUST answered in the same exact topic they post in? You can't fix stupid.
I have have PRETTY much given up asking people to search. I am sure sometimes I will have too but not as much as before. As I said, it is a lost cause.

The Magicsilence Release 2 upgrade is now available and it is compatible with magicJack's brand new dialer.

See http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/magi ... t9747.html to check it out.

we just installed the magicJack as a service. Seems to be working OK. Not to be picky, but do we lose the call history log then?

Which follows with another question I'll be posting - someone talked about getting their magicJack shut down for making 50 calls in a single day, when previous usage had been much lower / day (their excessive use is per day, not a per week, etc where a lot of use 1 day would average out.

A pop up blocker that really works

Post by mgapodaca »

The only program that I have found that really works is called Magic Control. For 10 bucks I am keeping my sanity. It also allows you to unblock them whenever you want. It's a pretty cool little program that doesn't even run in the background so it doesn't use any system resources. You may want to give it a shot. www.mjcontrol.com

Does it not defeat the purpose of all these apps add-on that you have to pay extra for a cheap phone system.

Not really.

Why do people take cheap cars and put chrome spinner rims on them or give them a custom paint job that may cost more than the car? Doesn't it defeat the purpose of a cheap car? Perhaps, it just comes down to exactly how cheap you want or really need to be compromised with what is still important to you.

You would have to add a whole lot to $1.67 to even get close to a featured landline phone bill plus long distance charges and hidden taxes/fees/surcharges for just one month alone.

No matter how you roll it up and customize the magicJack offering with "add ons", the calculator still shows it is relatively cheap by comparison.

I found the following tool called AutoSizer ... it works with any window you have, not just magicJack, and it will even minimize the annoying splash screen that appears when you first start up mj.

http://www.southbaypc.com/AutoSizer/

I tried all the other tools (magicBlock, magicSilence and magicHide) but I prefer this AutoSizer tool the best.

I will post my response again...

I had no idea what "shill" meant, so I looked it up and here is the definition:
A shill or plant is a person who helps another person or organization to sell goods or services without disclosing that he or she has a close relationship with the seller.

If you go to their website you will see the tool is completely free and there is absolutely no benefit to me for sending anybody to it ... it's a really good tool and I think it works better than all the other block/hide/silence tools and plugins out there. Until yesterday, I had never heard of this tool or company.

I was using another tool called WinSize2 (http://winsize2.sourceforge.net/) but it was too buggy, and when I searched for other tools to resize windows, AutoSizer is the one I found.

I always answer more than one thread when I have a solution (with or without a download link) because I want people to benefit from what I found.

Hope you understand.

Thanks

When you post the SAME message over and over and over again?? Yes shill comes to mind, whether it is free or not.
Post the damn thing ONE time and be done with it.

Hope YOU understand...

How do I set up AutoSizer so that, when I make a call, the MagicJack screen doesn't pop up. Thank you.........

That program did not work out so well for me when I tested it a while back with the latest version of the MJ dialer out at that time but perhaps you will have better luck.

In case you can't get it to do what you need, the MagicSilence Plugin does work. There is also an option to have a call alert window appear for incoming calls. You can try out the full version for up to 7 days.

For more information, see the "magicJack related items For Sale / Wanted" section of this forum.

That app is not free - but should be. There has to be a way to keep that damned screen from popping up when making or receiving a call.
