My wife can not call home from work...

Post by pshivers »

I've recently switched over to MJ+ as my main phone service provider, (Dropped Vonage). Everything has been working great, no problems, great QOS.

Yesterday my Wife moved to a different building in Pasadena for the company we both have worked for the past 25 years. When she attempts to call home (to our MJ number) now from 626-405-xxxx she get a a recording from MagicjJack that the call is being blocked!

The 626-405-xxxx exchange has been in use by our company since about 1985. Placing calls from her old building in Pasadena was not a problem, but it is on a different exchange (626-564-xxxx).

This is a major inconvenience put on us by MagicJack, I'm still within my 30-day free trial period, if this cannot be fixed I may be forced to hook up with Charter or Verizon FIOS....

MJ blocks call to and from MJ to areas they deam to have an expensive termination fee. They currently block the whole state of Alaska.
A work around would be you getting a FREE Google Voice number and have that number call your MJ. If that wont work for you then yes probably best you return it within the 30 days...
There have been a LOT of discussions in this forum about your problem, might behoove you do do a search and see what others are saying.
I still think the GV work around is your best bet.

Thanks Joe I'll give that a try...

Have any suggestion for "search" criteria here? All I came up with was certain conference call numbers that are being blocked. A list of blocked numbers would have been very handy BEFORE point of sale....

I forgot to mention I have no trouble at all calling my wife at work using my MJ connection... :?:

Yeah sometimes a search here can be a challange for sure.
Saldy there are no lists, not by MJ anway. They are not stupid ( ok they are), enough to post a list as that would be informing to people before they bought MJ and they would lose sales that way, silly rabbit, tricks are for kids :)

Here is a link to another forum, BUT be advised there are 39 pages of about it :)

Someone had complied a list there but it seems to change whereas one month a number wont work and another time it will.
Yes it is odd you can call there though. She isnt blocking her number by any chance is she ( or the company is) Seems MJ has decided a short time ago to start blocking blocked calls too. Will the fun NEVER end :)

Google Voice corrects the problem, kind of...

Wife calls and it rings on the MJ. I get a message that says to "press 1 to accept the call from her", I press 1. Then the message repeats itself and she gets sent to Google voicemail, strange.

Calling the Google voice number from my cell phone also rings the MJ, but pressing "1" connects the call immediately as expected.

I'll have to play with it a bit more and see if there is another away to just accept the call when the wife calls from work.

I think I will have Google Voice forward to my cell also. Then when Leila calls I can pick it up either way... Solves multiple problems for me, wife is a creature of habit and likes calling the "home" number.... (Our family has owned this number since 1947... Before I was born...)

Just log into your GV account then in the upper right hand corner there is a "gear" icon, click it and then voice settings. There are a WHOLE bunch of settings, from pin to announcing calls. Play there :) HINT: calls tab and turn off call screening.
I would still tell her, from time to time, jusy try calling your regular home number as one never knows if and when MJ might let it go through. of course if she has speed dial on her phone at work she will never know the difference calling the new vs the old number :)

Have fun :)
