Hello,
I am trying to setup magicjack to use static IP address assigned to it. Does anyone know how to do that? I have been chatting with their customer support live chat and thos people are useless.
Currently the magicjack will take DHCP from my router, but I want it to be static because of the firewall policy that I have applied on the router.
Does anybody have any ideas???
Thanks!!
MagicJack will not accept static IP address

Assign Static Address
What kind of router do you have? Does it support static dhcp? If it does get your mj's mac address and assign a static dhcp address outside your routers dhcp range. For example, if dhcp will grab an address from 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.150, assign something like 192.168.1.50.

I am using Linksys E4200. The DHCP range is set from 10.240.16.151 to 10.240.16.200. I am trying to use the IP of 10.240.16.40 which is outside of the DHCP range. Using magicjack website to assign static IP to the magicjack device will not take the settings.
Static DHCP...you mean DHCP reservation? Yes I can do that, but then it still uses DHCP. I was ogirinally planning to put magicjack in my main network where I don't have DHCP server, but only windows, unix servers and commercial cisco routers.
Any idea how to assign a static IP to the device?
Thanks!

Assign Static Address
When you say you would like to assign an IP address to the mj, is your mj a network device or a usb device? A mj+ can be a network device but a regular mj cannot. Mj will utilize the address of its pc host. You can assign a static address to your pc with windows - try a search on something like "xp set static ip address" or vista ... You will want to set this address outside the router's dhcp range. The address has to be unique.
To get a feel for what information you need, open up a dos box (start --> run --> cmd) and enter ipconfig. You will see what your current network connection has (ip address, subnet mask, and gateway).

I apologize for not being very clear. I have MJ+ and I am trying to use it as a network device. Originally it was setup on my laptop just to test it out and then within hours moved to standalone mode. So far I have USB power from the power adapter plugged in providing power to the MJ+, phone connected to the phone jack and LAN connection.
My laptop gets DHCP IP from my router, but MJ+ is not connected to it in any way.
I am surprised there is no software that can be used to control MJ+
Any ideas???

You can configure your mj+ to use a static IP address from your account page - that is where they keep the magic, I suppose.
