Porting my existing number was unbelieveably easy and fast!!

We had AT&T Uverse voice.

I received my MagicJack Plus on 12/31/2011
I submitted the port request (to move my ATT home phone # to my new MJP) on the same day. 12/31/2011

The port was completed on 1/4/2012!!!!!! LESS THAN 4 DAYS!!!!!!!

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!

Almost same scenario for me except I had att landline/dsl. I did lose the dsl for 12 hours, but not a big deal. My bill went from close to $80 down to $17! Pretty smooth transition. Dry dsl is the way to go unless you absolutely have to have uverse. The price difference is pretty significant.

What should I do next? Do I keep the ATT Uverse service? Then, connect, the Magic Jack. Then, , request the number porting and lastly, call ATT?

I want to make sure I do this in the right order. I know you guy have done it so I am needing the steps and advice. I received the Magic Jack this weekend, and I am ready to make the whole switch without losing my current number.

Uverse is a little different. If you have a POTS line(landline) then it's not associated with your Uverse account. If you have voip through Uverse then it is associated. Either way I think you're safe. If you port your number over, At&t should just disconnect the number only(should). You shouldn't have to call them at all. The porting process will be done behind the scenes. Dsl is different because it rides over your dial tone, therefore it's disconnected when your phone service is shut off. If you're service is bundled then your bill may actually go up with At&t. I would call them and check that 1st to see if it's even worth it.

I do not think so. I do have U verse internet only. As a matter of fact, you can tell them that you are going to quit entirely but that you may stay if they give you a good deal on u verse internet. There is a good chance that you get a discounted price for 6-12 months.

During the registration of your MJ (regular or Plus), there's an option there to register the device under your home phone number. You can select that one while you're still connected to your home phone service say for example, AT&T. Number porting of your home phone number to MJ costs $19.99. It takes 10 days for the number porting process to be completed actually. While the porting process is pending, you can't receive any incoming calls but you can for outgoing calls. The number will display on the dial pad. You'll receive an email notification from magicJack regarding the on-going number porting process. You need to wait and check for it for important things to do and remember
