MJ+ Not working when not connected to computer

I just bought an MJ+ and set it up just fine. It works like a champ when connected by my computer, but when I try to move it over to the router only, the wheels fall off. The router is apparently not even seeing this thing because the yellow and green lights don't light up, blink, or even flicker. The blue power light is on, but I can't get the router to recognize the MJ+ or vice versa. The phone (DECT 6.0) doesn't register any phone line and the screen says "check tel line".

I thought it might have been a defective unit so I took it back to the store and swapped it out for a new one and still get the same thing. Of course the chat line just had me jumping through the same dumb hoops for an hour with no resolution.

I have UVerse with a 2Wire 3801HGV gateway. My computer is a new iMac running Lion.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I went into the router settings and opened up the right ports on my iMac. I would have done it on the MJ+ itself, but the again, it doesn't show up as being connected to the router. I know the MAC address and I still don't see it in the devices list.

There's been some very similar posts lately concerning all the 2wire modem/router combos. Not sure if there's been any resolution, but if you do a search you might find one. I find it very strange that the router doesn't even see the mj. Does it link up for a couple seconds and then drop?

Thanks for the links. I'm going to go over the first one for a possible solution. I had been working off the second one after finding it in a search, but I can't get past step 3 because the router doesn't see the MJ+ in order for me to assign it an IP.

It never sees it. In fact, I have never seen the green or yellow light even flicker once. I don't even know if it's yellow or orange.

Np. That's really strange. It really should see it for atleast a couple seconds before it decides it doesn't like it. I guess you know it's not a bad mj unless you have some really bad luck and the replacement has the exact same issue as the 1st(I'm sure it's happened before). Could it be a power issue? Have you tried a different outlet or power supply? I'm assuming you've tried all the ports in the RG. I guess it couldn't hurt to try a cross over cable. You never know with Mj(maybe rj45 is reversed).

I did get them both at the same store on the same day so it's likely they are from the same lot. If it's a bad part then it could that both of them have the same problem. I think tomorrow I'll exchange it at a different WalMart and see if that shakes something loose. If not then it's likely not a problem with the jack but rather something weird in my router setup.

It seems that 2wire products don't have an interface to bind non-DCHP-allocated addresses to MAC addresses.

That's bad as I had to specifically tell TP-Link and DLink routers to bind MAC to IP before I would get any kind of network connectivity on the MJ+ device.

Try leaving the MJ+ plugged into the router for a day. I had similar issues with one of the routers I tested and the address was finally assigned after a really long delay (hours). I was able to bind it afterwards. Once rebooted, the MJ+ still worked immediately after only a few seconds.

There might be an alternate solution for those that can't map non-dhcp-assigned IPs to a mac address. MJ+ has a soft-config option in the web interface that allows you to set your device with a static IP address. Check out step 3 of the guide for the updated info.
