Magicjack Plus will not disconnect a call when on router

Post by RAE »

Using Linksys E1200 router and MJ+ will not disconnect a call when I hang up the phone. Works fine when attached through my computer. Have tried assigning a static IP, DMZ and port forwarding. It just will not work...Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Are you sure you have the latest firmware for your Linksys?? Seems they can be a "tad" temperamental with MJ's...

Does it work plugged directly into your modem. Make sure to power cycle the modem.

Try changing the Cat 5 cable which came with your Plus with a better one. I have read the ones which come with the Plus can and do cause some people problems.

Can't disconnet

If you can, try using a headset or your computer mic and speakers. There is a possibility that the phone is what is not disconnecting (staying off hook to the MJ). But if it works completely properly on your computer, then it really has to be an issue with the router or the dongle power supply.

Tried swapping the network cable as suggested and result was the same. This made me look closer at the cabling in the house and realized it was Cat 3. I recalled reading somewhere there was an issue with the MJ driving a signal very far on a phone line. I had been trying to feed the whole house wiring from the MJ+ and decided to run a short phone line from the MJ+ to the base phone unit and it worked fine. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.
