Intermittent service drop
Does anyone have a problem losing connection? My magicjack plus loses connection when idle (not in use) daily. I have used customer service several times and didn’t help. Upgraded software and everything else and still loses network connection at odd times during the day. I can disconnect it and reconnect power and it comes right back online.

Re: Intermittent service drop
If you are using the Plus in your USB port make sure you check the USB ROOT HUB settings in device manager ( there is more than one entry in tge USB section). Be sure the power saving setting is NOT enabled on any of them.rbprivate1 wrote:Does anyone have a problem losing connection? My magicjack plus loses connection when idle (not in use) daily. If you are NOT using it via the USB port of your PC, you may want to try an better quality Cat 5 cable as the one which comes with the Plus is crap, or so I hear.

Intermittent service drop
I am not using it with my computer and I used a different cat 5 cable than it was shipped with. Thanks for the reply.
Intermittent Service Drop
Am having the same problem. Getting Error 23. Customer Service is of no help. From reading previous error 23 posts it appears to be a router setting issue. Magic jack does not offer any published help with router settings. I have a ATT-2wire gateway and have been able to put it in the DMZ Plus. This has helped and the MJ Plus works better for several days. At times having a problem with the calls being dropped after 1-3 minutes. After several days the error 23 issue comes back. I unplug and replug the MJ Plus and I have to reboot the router. Them good for several days except for the occasional dropped call.

Intermittent Drops
I have the same problem. I currently have AT&T 2 wire but also had the problem with different provider and different modem. I feel it’s a problem of MagicJack plus. Mine is an early edition of mj+ and wonder if they have become better with later production? I didn’t have any problems with my old mj but upgraded to the plus to not have to keep computer on 24-7. I got MJ + in November 2011.
Dropped Service
Make sure you have the latest firmware installed.
Intermittent service drop
In your router under DHCP setting increase the DHCP lease time for 7 days or 10080 minutes example below

Magic Jack Plus Drops Connection
MJP drops Internet connection randomly roughly 6 times per day and re-establishes it automatically after time periods of about 10 minutes to 2 hours. I am able to log the disconnects by a cron ping sent to MJP every 6 minutes. MJP does not answer the ping when it is disconnected. Disconnect situations coincide with no dial tone every time I have checked. If I unplug and replug MJP it reconnects immediately, thus it is unlikely to be a power problem.
I did not have any MJ problems, 2 years use. I got this MJP last November, MJ promotion.
This is MJP. No PC is involved. I have changed cables and sockets to assure that the problem is not MJP connection by Ethernet to the router. The router is Toshiba and I am able to determine that when MJP is disconnected the router shows its DHCP connection. There are no related error messages on the router as disconnect occurs or connection is re-established. I think it all happens in MJP.
Any suggestions ?

I have no suggestions for you yet, those are the exact problems I am having. I feel we may have received defective MJ+ units. My unit was shipped to me in November.

MJ+ random disconnect from Internet

The log is automatic, a test every 6 minutes. Today (Tuesday morning) MJ+ hasn't failed since 5:42 AM Monday. Long-term MJ worked fine for the first month I had it (December), then I moved my main telephone line to it, it had a few problems in late January, and as you see the problems increased to many disconnects per day.
I cannot do without the main telephone number I have used for 40 years. Replacement of the MJ+ device which holds my number is not like replacing a telephone handset. I hope the problem does not reoccur.

MJ+ random disconnect from Internet
Same problem I have. Tried everything else and have ordered a different USB power supply. I will post my findings once I get it. If I am around when the connection fails I unplug the power from the mj and plug it back in and that restores it within 20 seconds.
I was having the same issues and this is what I found
max2198 is on the right track with ip lease times
My router (cisco dpc3825) gives the MJ+ it's dynamic IP
and it works fine (max 24hrs on mine). After that time passes
the router doesn't give it a new IP until I restart the MJ+.
If I try to make a call, I get the error, hang up, wait 5 seconds
and it is connected again.
I don't know if this is a trait of the dpc3825 since all my
computers that use dhcp for an IP get kicked offline after the
the lease expires. (static IP address stays online always)
I also have an old Linksys E2000 router that holds dynamic
IP's as long as the client is on so.......
plugged the old Linksys into the cisco (using static ip and ports forwarded)
plugged the MJ+ into the old Linksys (again, ports forwarded accordingly)
and don't forget
mac id of the MJ+ is always assigned the same IP from the router
QOS is set for MJ+ to get high priority
Would be much easier if we could give MJ+ a static IP but that's another story

I hope this helps

Intermittent service drop
Well, having messed with everything from power supply to network settings and cable changes I have had about 30 continues hours of uptime.
I hooked mj+ to a spare Linksys wireless device WET 610N to achieve my stable network connection. I will post any changes in the future.
Now looking good though.

Re: MJ+ random disconnect from Internet
I have the same problems described here. I have spent hours on the tech chat configuring and reconfiguring my AT&T 2Wire router. Nothing has helped. I told them I wanted a refund since this is obviously a defective product. They told me that I wasn't entitled to one since the 30 day trial has passed. I have talked to my credit union regarding the charges on my card, and they have contested the charge because they agreed with me.
Something else to pay attention to, during the initial setup you were asked whether you wanted the autorenew option, which I said I DID NOT want. When I looked at my account settings, the autorenew option was selected.
I had the MJ for a couple of years without too many issues, just the occasional reset. The MJ+ is a piece of junk and totally unreliable.

Re: MJ+ random disconnect from Internet
I've had mine for about six months now, and I completely agree with you. Worst piece of crap I've ever bought.cfug8 wrote:... The MJ+ is a piece of junk and totally unreliable.
Dropped calls, no dial tone sometimes, calls not getting through sometimes, unable to receive calls sometimes, choppy sound sometimes, sometimes works ok on router and sometimes not, sometimes works ok on computer and sometimes not, did I forget something ?
Utter piece of junk connected to a piece of crap network, operated and maintained by incompetent jerks who are only concerned about selling more and more devices, only to provide a crappy service afterwards.
I'll crush this MJ+ with a sledge hammer and throw it in the garbage, where it belongs, after my one year prepaid service is up.
Never more shall I be a victim of any other stupid infomercial.
P.S. Don't worry, I DID disable the auto renew on my account.
