MJ+ Missing Caller ID Names
Been following the discussions on this thread and haven't seen this problem:
Have a MJ+ (no PC involved) wired into the whole house system. Caller ID numbering works on incoming calls to all phones BUT there are no "names" appearing on the incoming calls, only the phone number repeated twice on the phone displays.
Before switching to the MJ+, Time Warner and ATT used to display incoming names on the phones, so I know the phones work properly. Numerous "chats" with MJ support reps for the past 3 weeks and they have no idea what's going on but turned it over to their technicians.
Anyone else missing the names on incoming calls? Any solutions found yet? Would also like to hear from people who ARE showing names with the caller ID on incoming calls (just to be sure that someone has a working unit with their MJ+).

Posting this twice is not going to change the answer that Joe gave you.
MagicJack does not support Caller ID with name, with ANY of their products.
It's not something that will just magically appear on your phone. If you want it, you will have to pay for a third-party product that will provide you the service.

Caller ID information
It seems to be a little more complicated. Exactly ONE caller ID had a name attached with it and it was not also in my address book. Hasn't ever happened again.

Re: Caller ID information
It's not complicated. MJ does not offer Caller ID with name. With either their regular MJ or the Plus.SailorDave wrote:It seems to be a little more complicated. Exactly ONE caller ID had a name attached with it and it was not also in my address book. Hasn't ever happened again.
There could easily be a one-time error in something getting transmitted. So I guess if the guy wants to sit around waiting for that to happen, that's a game plan. Or he will need to buy a 3rd party product/service that offers it on all calls.

Re: Caller ID information
I had the exact same experience a week ago. I've had 2 callers show up with their name, and interestingly, they were both outside my local area code down in southern Ohio.SailorDave wrote:It seems to be a little more complicated. At least it shows that it IS possible to implement names if MJ ever links to any one of the 20 databases that provide names with caller ID
Re: Caller ID information
I have had Caller ID indicate a name 3 or 4 times (twice from the same number). Rare, but it happens.dleitch177 wrote:I had the exact same experience a week ago. BTW, I have both an original magicJack and a Plus. I don't use the original MJ much (expires in a couple months), though I did purchase GVJack App from http://www.pcphonesoft.com/ for use with it.
I also try to have everyone call my Google Voice number, which Forwards to my MJ+ number (as well as my cell number).
Also, I have the names and numbers saved to all our telephones (cordless), for our most frequent callers. Therefore, we can usually see who is calling.
Perhaps this will be helpful info.

Of course it IS possible. IF they ever link. No one said it WASN'T possible. Just that it isn't possible NOW.dleitch177 wrote:At least it shows that it IS possible to implement names if MJ ever links to any one of the 20 databases that provide names with caller ID
IF you want it NOW you WILL have to use a 3rd party product. UNLESS you enter the names and numbers into your PHONE contact list. But then we are back to the original answer. MJ didn't provide the name look-up service, you did.

I'm sorry; let me explain that better.dleitch177 wrote:Just doesn't make any sense, does it?2guntom wrote:I had someone call me from a Comcast voip phone so I could test some stuff...
There was a name above the number.

Had a sales call yesterday that said "Customer Service" from somplace in Colorado.
A month ago, the trouble started with the mj+. I would attempt to call my wife from work. At work we have a voip phone offered by/through Comcast; my wife was on the mj+. When my wife answered, all I heard was the first part of "Hello" and that was it. She could hear me just fine. She would hang up, and call me back. Now calling from mj+ to the Comcast phone, we could hear eachother just fine, that is until the call dropped out. The drop out could be 5 minutes, at 10, sometimes we could talk for almost an hour (very rare) before being cut off.
So, after all the stuff I've done and been through, I think I have the mj+ working, but I have only successfully tested with cell phones.
That was NOT a random service solicitation call; that was my brother who has a phone through Comcast.
Does that make sense?
I'm not ruling Comcast out as a potential problem in this situation. They too are nothing but a pain....
All I'm saying is, the mj+ worked fine for a couple months, then it went crazy.
Something changed somewhere.
It could be my neighbor is dealing in tinfoil beanies or something and the reflection of the government's holographic imaging machines to my house is increased...
Maybe it's those black helicopters...
Then again, it could be the robot aliens (I'm suddenly craving clove cigarettes and wanting a shotgun).
I do know for sure, I was up WAY WAY WAY too late last night trying to get the stupid mj+ working...
