Can Magic Jack Plus replace landline for LOCAL calls?
Can Magic Jack Plus replace landline for LOCAL calls?
I am considering purchasing MJ+ to completely replace my landline phone (BellSouth/AT&T in Ft Lauderdale area).
Most of my use of MJ+ will be LOCAL calls.
I have read many MJ+ reviews and one thing troubles me...some have reported that MJ will not allow LOCAL calls without an extra charge (pay by the minute) in their area, or will not allow calls to some ‘high traffic’ LOCAL phone numbers.
Before I drop $75 on a MJ+ can anyone shed some light on the local call situation?
Thanks....

Try the MJ+ with the new phone number they give you, don't forget that you need to use the area code, even on local calls. If it's not compatible for your area just send it back. Every once in a while I will get a call dropped but it only with one person, my brother, and I blame it on his cheap wireless phone system in his house. He blames it on my cheap $2.88/month MJ+ .....
Honestly very satisfied with the MJ+, I did buy the best router(motorola surfboard sb6121) and wireless router(belkin n750db) I could buy at the same time though.

I have had a USB only version MJ for three years and never had any issues with local calls. Most of my calls are local. I also haven't noticed any local call issues with the MJ+ I bought last winter.
I replaced our Verizon land lines with MJ a long time ago and haven't had a single issue or regret. I saved almost $1,200 the first year alone using MJ.

Off course there are no big problems with local calls here( most of the time). It is rather the long distance calls incl. toll free where you can encounter miserable call quality.Well....I have had MagicJack Plus installed for a couple of weeks and NO PROBLEMS with local calls or long distance calls.
Works great....dump your landlines... Very Happy
Dumping land lines ? Absolutely. Replacing them with magic Jack? I would advise to explore the whole world of VOIP before making this decision.

Just got a majic jack a couple weeks ago
They tell me I get a year free. Dang, what's the draw back. Then 40 a year? I've been getting a crummy service with static for years out in the country paying 50 bucks a month. Now I finlay got the new wild blue high speed and this majic jack is great. Nice clear signal and no problems so far.
One down side, you have to dial 1 + the area code on every number you dial. Other than that, it's great.

My results with magicJack have been mostly positive, but far from perfect.
I've used the original magicJack for almost 6 months before upgrading to the newer model. It worked great most of the time, however, in late-2011 I started to get a LOT of dropped calls. Same experience for a friend that lives in the same area.
Maybe it had something to do with the reliability of the connection between magicJack systems and the plain-old telephone system, but needless to say it was pretty annoying. For the last few weeks, things appear to be getting better (fewer dropped calls, longer talk time between dropped calls).
I still am getting a lot for my money so i'm not really complaining, however I had to demonstrate this to my friend several times to convince her that magicJack plus is worth it. I believe this product is more intended to be used by tech savvy users that understand how computers and technology work (otherwise it can result in a lot of frustration). If I was to start over again, I would NOT have gotten her a magicJack and make her use a new number in a different area code (porting is not available yet in my area).
My 2 cents!
