Trading numbers with MJ devices? Plans?
MJ's Tech support chat site appears to be off line today. Wonder if that's temporary?
Maybe someone on here can answer a few questions based on their own experience:
I currently own two of the original magic jack devices.
I just purchased a Magic Jack Plus that I would like to test first to be sure it meets my needs, then reassign (exchange) the phone number of one of the old MJs with the MJ+
When I responded to the promo offer, it was my understanding that I could transfer my service plan years from my old MJ to the new MJ+. .
Can I activate the MJ+ first on its own phone number and test it out, then exchange numbers with the old MJ?
Do the service plans follow the phone numbers?
Does transferring the service plan to the MJ+ add its duration to the 1 year already provided with the MJ+?
Or can the 1 year service from the MJ+ be reassigned to the old MJ?
TIA....

They will not let you transfer years from a regular MJ to a MJ+, and I asked them if you could transfer years from a regular MJ to another regular MJ, and they said "no, that it could only be transferred to an unregistered product". This is a quote from their FAQ about what you are asking "To upgrade from magicJack to magicJack PLUS, you can simply purchase a magicJack PLUS. You will have the option to use an existing magicJack number or select a new number for your magicJack PLUS, during the registration process".
MagicJack user since 2008.

@tcgc70: You CAN transfer the time from the regular to the Plus if you bought the Plus through their recent promotion offer, as techineer did. That was one of the big selling points of the promotion. It is a totally separate issue from their regular policy that they outline in their FAQ's.
@techineer: I think you have to do the time transfer at the time you register the Plus. I highly doubt they will let you dink around and transfer it a year later, as you outlined in another post.

I may have misread what you said: They will not let you transfer years from a regular MJ to a MJ+tcgc70 wrote:@nailgunner: I agree, I thought that's what I said.
They will let him transfer his years since he bought his Plus through the promotion offer.
But, if you were later stating he couldn't do it down the road after it was registered, it sounds like we are on the same page. The regular MJ to regular MJ transfer part was getting in the way, in my brain anyways.

Be happy it says that!! I had the moderator change it when I hit that milestone. It was SUPPOSED to be MJ God!!!! Uhhh no thanks.. So blame me as I suggested Sensei instead..nailgunner wrote:I wish there was a way to reset that damn thing to zero. The last thing I want to be a Sensei of is MagicJack. Besides, all it does is remind me of how full of hot air I am and how much excess spare time I have.tcgc70 wrote:I would never go against a MagicJack Sensei!!

transfer of previous years' service
Incidentally to this discussion, on June 3 of this year I responded to their ad to purchase a MJ+ at half price along with my perhaps misinformed understanding that I could transfer the 5 yr plan I already had with my original MJ to the MJ+. The response that I got from MagicJack was that everything was good and that I would get a confirmation email within an hour. I'm still waiting for that email. I applied in the same way a couple of more times since and got the same reply from them and I've never received any of those emails to date either. My only consolation is that they have neither charged my credit card nor have I received the MJ+. I had previously purchased a MJ+ from Radio Shack but have not yet registered it and won't until I can get a handle on this situation.
The product itself in my experience has been good but their customer service is pathetic.
