MJ assigned my phone number to someone else!

I have paid up 6 years in all and am in my 4th year. Suddenly, when I plugged in my MJ, it would not register my number and said to pick a new number... I HAVE a number and don't want another one. So I got on chat with Mumbai and they said that they took my number away in May of 2010 and as it was an available number, reassigned it to someone else the DAY before I plugged in and found no number! I get calls on my number up until 4 days before my last unsuccessful plug in and made short calls every once in a while, so no violation of Terms and Usage. But to say my number went inactive in May 2010 is hogwash! It was in use for me up until the day before I plugged in as I was responding to the voicemail left at my number. So Chat says that they will fix it and get my number back and email me, but that has been three weeks now and no word. I plug in and get a number like *0000187593726** ...try calling that! Any suggestions on what I should do with MagicJack? Thanks guys.

You may have run afoul of the Terms Of Service if you did not MAKE a call:

"We reserve the right to reclaim any telephone number that does not make a call for a consecutive 90 days. In the event that we reclaim a phone number and your software license is still active, you may choose another phone number." (from TOS paragraph 6)

Yikes! I have a balance and I DO make calls, at least one or two a month, but MJ has taken my number and my contacts and all and so how could I ever prove that I made calls? My balance diminishes but it doesn't even show so maybe they took my money too! So now they have my number and my money and never did advise me to re-activate anything and to say that I ddidn't use the service since 2010 is unbelieveable. I am waiting for them to restore my number as they "said" they would but you have left me with little hope and they have all the evidence. All I have is my PayPal receipts for money posted and several emails of voice mails over the past few months... the rest I have erased. Thankis for your help.

According to the MJ tech support, your MJ phone number will be deactivated by the system if you'll not use it to place outgoing calls within 90 consecutive days and you need to have a new phone number.

Spent almost 4 hours on chat with Mumbai last night as they passed me from agent to agent, each new one wanted 20 minutes to review the previous chat and I sucked. Altho they could NOT show me where I didn't make calls for 90 days, which is what they are basing their taking of my number on, they did show that THEIR RECORDS show that I did not use my MJ in 2012 at all! I submitted proof of calls to MY number such as emails of voice mails left at my number and excepts from emails to me mentioning my calls to friends ON MJ, but they wore me out with their "One moment please...." and left me dangling for 15 to 30 minutes with "I'll check that for you..." and they said that they would give me a new number and walked me thru the steps... but no bananas. Seems that their "higher authority" as they are called in Mumbai have blocked the use of my phone since I complained first on June 20th and STILL have not resolved the issue and they say to "wait". I asked about my credit balance for International Calls but they said that they showed no balance because they could not use my revoked number to check as it now belongs to someone else, "Catch 22" I imagine. So there you have it... Terms of Draconian Service punish you if you use it TOO much and punish you if you use it TOO little! I figure that I am one of the few that they actually make money on as I don't use MJ that much, mostly on cheaper overseas calls where MJ is favorable that I PAY for. I find Google Voice MUCH easier on my bandwidth and pocketbook... a penny a minute. So now, MJ ends the chats quickly telling me that the matter has been resolved favorably in my favor. BUT.... I just can't make or receive calls because I now HAVE NO NUMBER!!! April 22, 2014 I will celebrate by NOT renewing my MJ, as if they care... Thanks guys for all your clarifications.

Unfortunately, this is typical for MJ customer " service".
Why do you want to wait till April 2014 ? Get a GV Jack app or sign up for one of the many great and inexpensive VOIP services available these days an celebrate today.

@ olamoree,

You NEED to use the device to place an OUTGOING CALL within 90 consecutive days. In other words, the LEFT VM MESSAGES AND RECEIVED CALLS has NOTHING to do with it. peace... :D

Am looking into GVjack App and it looks interesting.... the only problem would be for me living in Costa Rica altho Google Voice is working fine from here. Another slow down would be getting a number that I can be called on but as I usually Tunnel to the US to have a US IP number, I can probably get that set up. VERY interesting to read that Germany does NOT allow any type of VOIP hardware to be sent there and VOIP is outlawed there! Who's next? The GVjack App forum is a delight as the Moderator is probably a GVjack App principal and knows what he is talking about and when someone points out a small problem, the Moderator says that they have now fixed that. Talk about staying on top. Thanks again for your insight.

Where did you hear that nonsense ? If you speak German you will be able to pull up a huge number of VOIP companies offering service there.

There might be a problem if you try to set up a GV account outside of the US so it is always a good idea to set it up in the US and verify the US phone number you have to submit (a must) .
But GV gives you a DID and it does not matter whether you use your GV Jack in Sweden or in Costa Rica
