I added $10.00 credit for International calls and also have registered an alternative telephone number (of course a none MJ).
I was sent the following information:
"For placing an international call from another registered number please dial 1-305-848-9999 from that phone number."
Since my area code is (647) and not "305", it means placing an international call will endure (2) long distance charges:
a. MJ International charges
b. landline or cellphone long distance charges when 1-305-848-9999 is dialed
-Is that so?
If that is the fact, then it makes no sense to purchase international long distance from MJ and use the credit on a none MJ telephone. International Long Distance cards include several local telephone numbers. The local number is dialed first, following the international number = 1LD only.
Dialing 1-305-848-9999 + International Number = 2XLD?

Thank you for your comment.
Of course, I could dial directly from the MJ and get charged for the international long distance only. But MJ is the one who is offering its customers the option to register an additional telephone number, which is a great idea, meanwhile providing most of its subscriber a long distance access telephone number in order to dial an international telephone number.
If MJ cannot provide local access numbers to its international long distance customers other than the people with (305) area code , than it should omit its offering to register additional telephone number.
It is very strange when one is provided a long distance access telephone number in order to dial a long distance international number. In most cases it would end up costing more to dial the access telephone number than the international.

??????????????
Most cell phone plans include free long distance.
At home, you can use MJ. I BTW do not use MJ for international, I have another (post paid) carrier for all my cell phones plus MJ. This carrier offers both toll free nad regular long distance access, obviously, the rates for toll free access are higher.
I do not understand your problem.

1-305-848-999 is not an ACCESS CODE
I share lousk's frustration.
I just bought a prepaid international minutes because I thought I can use my cell phone to call an international number. Yes it allowed me to do that but what I didn't realize is that I will get hit with a long distance fee by my cell phone provider for calling the ACCESS CODE number.
I'm calling from Canada and any calls I made to a US phone number (such as this 1-305-848-9999) is considered long distance. Not only do i use up my prepaid international, I also get additional long distance charge from my cell phone provider.
MagicJack should not use the term "ACCESS CODE" because 1-305-848-999 is not really an access code but a US phone number to call. When I signed up I thought the ACCESS CODE that they will give me is a four digit pin code or password that I will need to enter before I dial the international number that I want to call. They could have been more clear by saying that I will be given an area code 305 phone number to call.

I am using international phone call minutes on my mobile phone from last two years and I never faced any of these problems. My service providers allow me to make local area calls from my international phone call plan. So I think you should ask your service provider if they also provide a service like this.
Hope this website can help you to call Internationally.
www.countrycodes.com
all you have to do, is to access that site and look for the country which one you want to call (cities to be followed) and it will GIVE you the correct number combination (country code and area code).

I've been with this service for quiet a long time now but I don't have any problem. For me, it's convenient to use your cell phone/land line to dial the International number (of course dialing the access code first) then the Int. number. The only bad thing is that, the access number is not a toll free number but a long distance one.
