No one knows for sure as no one has had their number ported for a year yet. You ask 5 different support people and you will get 5 different answers.
One can only hope when the time comes the rumors of a $10 yearly charge will be false.
Time will tell...

I did the port for 19.95 waited for 3 days to get an email from MJK that told me hey we cant port your number after all, so then I went to redo for my new number and they want to charge me 10.00 for that, I have contacted there crap service center, who did nothing to assist me, tried to explain to them it is ur issue the number can not be ported, thus I paid 19.95 for a port that did not happen, gave away the chance to get my free number, and i am still waiting on credit for the 19.95 but they sure pulled that 10.00 the same day , I love the MJK I have bought 2 but this time around, I am not happy, at all with the service !!

NOT Fair !! and not good seervice

Ok I HAVE to ask, what the hell does the "K" stand for?? You keep saying the MJK.. I know MJ, and MJ Plus but "K"???????
Unless MJK is an abrevation for MAGICJACK?? I have never seen it typed that way here, and I have been here a long time, so I had to ask...

Most probably, jcw265 is referring to the abreviaton for MAGICJACK. Well, just wanted to tell you that there's a $9.99 yearly maintenance fee for number porting of your home phone number to MJ.

I was told when I signed up last Sept that the port was a one time charge....LIE!!!!!!!!! just renewed for another year and was charged $10.43 to renew number for one more year. MJ support said I could change to a number they give me and not pay the yearly port charge.

Huh...
Yet another reason to port your telephone number to Google Voice instead of magicJack.
I did that to begin with, and am forwarding all calls from GV to mJ+. Of course it cost me $20 (one-time fee) to do the transfer from a mobile phone to GV and $25 before that to port the AT&T landline number to a temporary mobile phone, but the up side is that now if anything wonky happens with the mJ+, I can just forward the GV number to a different phone, skype, or voip number of my choice.
It was an elective thing, but I think the overall benefits of using GV as my main interface are worth it.
